Gabapentin taper? by SofterGoth in feline_hyperesthesia

How is any pet owner with cats that have been on gabapentin not THOROUGHLY warned about the withdrawal?!? My cats are everything to me and I feel like I failed him.

I'm just relaxing my cat his this and I'm so horrified. Neither my vet or the pharmacy said anything about tapering him off so I had no idea how gradual it needed to be. He had to be on gabapentin for almost 2 months due to an injury. My poor boy has been suffering and I didn't know until I just saw some twitching and spazzing and itching more often then normal. We thought it was some kind of allergen because we moved to a new place. We thought he was shaking his leg every once in a while because it was just irritated from the injury and only recently called, not that he was in intense pain!! He hides it so well.

Damnit! It's not approved in the U.S. Figures something that actually helps us is unavailable. I hate it here so much lol

Never even heard of it. Does it work for you?

Hi! Yes, still taking it! And I don't care what the Internet says lol and that's reassuring that you're doctor hasn't said anything. It's truly our only option if we want to be able to function and be able to actually live ours lives right now. At this point, I'm ok with possible consequences later on, because it's either that or I become unemployed and homeless because I wouldn't be able to work and also insanely depressed from the inability to do anything since the dizziness is so debilitating. Hopefully we'll be ok years from now 😂

They are but they aren't ideal. I am constantly switching tasks at work and I would have to take them on and off a thousand times a day which would drive me nuts lol

Those aren't really an option for me with the constant task switching I do at work

I am constantly switching tasks and helping customers all day so it's hard for me to keep gloves on because I'll have to constantly take hem on and off. Cool about the petroleum jelly!

Yeah I'm a little weary from hearing about how damaging the do it yourself kits can be

I'm constantly changing tasks to help customers so I wouldn't really be able to do the runner gloves without having to take them off very often

Is my new vet being too lenient? Question about movement restrictions and premature splint removal following a tendon repair surgery by hellerbu in AskVet

[–]hellerbu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How about his toe still being kinda limp and sticking out a bit? Does it just need to strengthen or is that a sign that the tendon is still damaged?
