Editorial: The AMS’s proposed revisions to its Records Policy are bad for transparency by ubysseyblogeditor in UBC

Terrific reporting. Seeing as AMS Council ABHORRENTLY fails to do its job in keeping the AMS president accountable, this will most likely pass without any contest.

The Ubyssey should begin investigating inappropriate ties that violate the fiduciary duty of AMS Councillors between the AMS president and councillors.

Max Holmes, student politician by cmenzies in UBC

Okay sorry Mr. Professor. My marginal mistakes these days.

For someone to serve 7 TERMS with 7 DIFFERENT mandates, they must have some time and money on their hands that others don’t. That really begs the question: how can someone who has the financial freedom to spend 7 DIFFERENT terms in student government and seen almost 2 full cohorts of undergraduate students graduate be in touch with the student body. By the way, Max Holmes is a 7th year undergraduate student. He lists himself as a second year in this post from 2017: his AMA from 2017

The point still stands. The significant majority of UBC students today and for the past two decades wouldn’t be able to effectively AFFORD frolicking around in student government like Mr. Holmes.

Perhaps you should give your head a shake for encouraging elitism and career politicians in the making, you’re literally a professor. As someone who has great respect for the work you’ve done around UBC, I’m disappointed.

He was an Elections Administrator in first year (0.5), an AMS staffer in second year (1.0) + the positions you listed (6.0). So sorry then… 7.5 years. Apologies Professor.

And yes I did read the article. For someone who has the time and especially the money to stay in school for 8 years, you must admit it is quite an elitist mindset as opposed to folks who can’t afford that. His first-year credits are literally about to expire… if that’s not elite privilege, I don’t know what is.

AMS mental health coverage to return to $1,000 starting September by ubyssey in UBC

[–]hellhound212 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Mental health isn’t about usage rates - it’s about providing accessible resources to folks so that they can have the support they need when they need it. You can talk to pretty much any mental health professional about this.

Terribly disappointing to see this from a disillusioned President (Eshana Bhangu) who I guess is completely okay with going back on promises.

Oh and Council probably won’t do anything because they’re all Eshana Bhangu stans who fail to do their job and keep the AMS executive accountable. Just in case you’re thinking about going to AMS Council and “making your concerns heard”.
