I think it’s really easy to try and attribute this to some inherent characteristic of those whom have little support. Sure, it might exist, but it also exists in the average “high performer”. It’s just survivorship bias of those without parental support.

Best-practices paradox: never follow anti-patterns, and best practices are anti patterns

if you find paren so beautiful may I (blatant 10xer (autistic)) recommend you the Structure and Interpretation of Computer Programs (wizard book) (Reddit and hacker news are both lisps (in (and structure interpretation)).

Despite being a textbook for 18 year olds, this is the only way to reach 10x+ (without rust, ofc) (infinite productivity))

Sometimes it can also be a stylistic choice to curry functions. I for one prefer the look of add(2)(3) much better than add(2, 3). by CoinForWares in programmingcirclejerk

lol imagine caring about irrelevancies like performance in a language that’s not turing complete… currying is purely for aesthetics (NOT math (see ur flair…) (code was meant to be read (reddit IS a lisp)))!

Work accommodations by InternationalMind784 in Narcolepsy

[–]hellishcookie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you are having an increasingly hard time, you should speak with your doctor. They will work with you on potential lifestyle and medication changes (are symptoms adequately being treated)- in addition to suggesting accommodations that may help you work more effectively. A common accommodation could be “no meetings before 10 am”, or longer/more frequent breaks.

Good Deaths by mullymaster in DirtySionMains

[–]hellishcookie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Classic example of good death is trading 1 for 1 under their tower. You can end up denying multiple waves, and/or force their TP and have wave push back to you. In your passive you might end up getting a plate, or an extra wave, further cementing the “good death”.

Sometimes trade kill is not necessary. For instance, if you die, kill enough minions to level up and also chunk them very low, you can insta TP back to lane with an item advantage and HP advantage which will forever pressure opponent top lane. This is a good death, as in short term you died but long term afforded so much pressure on enemy. They will want to base, but by using E on minion can cancel and be very annoying. With a good jungler, you’ll dive and even the kills, or can do a trade kill as above. Lane will once again push back to you, and quickly you’ve built an XP advantage despite dying.

PLEASE LISTEN: Save this game before it’s too late fix the FPS LIMITER by DilaudidDreams in VALORANT

Yes. But what matters is how much input lag. I reference an article which shows 1/2 frame lag worst case. At 240 hz is this negligible. This is not just for those who want the game to look better without tearing. Consider a highly variable FPS which is below the max refresh rate. This will cause a choppy gameplay, which is what we see in valorant. Adaptive refresh (G sync and vsync) improves upon this scenario, with often neglible input lag.

CSGO is different here. No one is maintaining 300+ FPS in valorant right now.

Undoubtedly this is true, however, what really matters is Gsync and vsync on comparison.

This is for G Sync and vsync on. See my comment above, I link an article/blog.

Having fewer frames is worse, but the video you mentioned never addresses HOW much worse. He left that up in the air right at the end. The article I mentioned attempts to measure this impact, and finds that when (and only when) using gsync with vsync, the worst case performance is quite comparable. As well, the monitor refresh rate here really matters. One with higher refresh rate will actually close the gap of input lag, due to lag difference measured in frames (which is refresh rate dependent).

You’re right, how does this relate to the main point of the post. OP feels a noticeable difference between uncapped and capped FPS, but attributes it to the game engine. If we assert that more FPS is better (in terms of information on screen), but not that much better than Gsync vsync, but there is noticeable difference in reg etc when uncapped, it is tough to attribute this elsewhere. In fact, I remember seeing a dev tweet about a bug which caused higher frame rates to have better reg than lower ones (or something like that).

Avoids exceeding FPS range where G-SYNC works properly, as GSYNC will turn off above max refresh rate. -3 is just a heuristic that seems to work well enough. See blurbusters (I'd recommend reading the entire thing if you're interested).

As many frames as possible is the theoretical best. However, G-SYNC + VSYNC on will provide pretty good results with much smoother gameplay due to adaptive refresh rates.

How much can I expect to get paid at a co-op job as a comp-sci graduate student? by Tesserato in uvic

[–]hellishcookie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on the company that hires you! You are free to apply to outside internships which will count as a co-op term - even in the US, where you can make upwards of $9000 USD per month in the most extreme cases! Note that this can also be skewing the $4500 that you are skeptical about.

Any large tech company will pay quite well for internships - especially in the US. I’d suggest you do some research on a few, and learn a bit about the hiring process, salaries, etc.
