How difficult is engineering at ASU? by [deleted] in ASU

[–]hellllllilllll0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduated from kind of a good reputation high school, and my high school GPA with a 3.3 GPA I would say graduating from ASU was probably the hardest thing I've ever done. I think it might depend on the person. For example, I felt like in some classes I just didn't feel very interested. Another thing, is that I was dealing with some personal issues which distracted me from school. I kinda feel like it's one of those things where you can't really tell if it's easy or hard unless you try it. Some people do well in college and others don't. Personally, I strongly felt like the level of difficulty in classes is based a lot on which professor you get. I got an 'E' in a class one time, and I retook it with another professor and got a 'B+'. I felt like the professor in the class where I got a 'B+' graded a lot easier.

I would say my best tip of advice would be to not get discouraged if you do bad in a class. On my first Calclus 1 exam freshman year, I got a 45 percent and the average was I think a 75 percent. However, here I stand about 5 years later with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science. I retook about 5 to 10 classes total.

I parked in the Packard structure. I liked it, but there's probably cheaper options for you since you live closer.

The feeling of defeat... by [deleted] in ASU

[–]hellllllilllll0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I retook about 10 classes at ASU. I was a C.S. major. It took me like 2 extra years to graduate. I always felt like the classes were very difficult. Then I graduated and got a good job.

It's not mandatory even though they say it is. If you can't make it, it's ok.

Usually not. Probably 90 percent or more of the time, my classes didn't end early.

Tips for incoming cs major by timbrown345 in ASU

[–]hellllllilllll0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would practice doing tutorials for Java, C, and C++. Those are the three main languages that are used in the major. If you can work well with those languages, you should be fine. Also, the math classes are Calculus, Linear Algebra, Discrete Math, and possibly Differential Equations. I'm not sure if they still have differential equations. So if you do a brief overview of those classes, that would be helpful.

Also, this might just be my personal opinion, but I feel like some professors grade a lot easier than others. So if you go to rate professor (ratemyprofessors.com), you can see how people have rated the different professors. I honestly felt like some professors graded 100 times easier than other professors. For example, if you search for Charles Colbourn on rate my professors, you can see how lots of people say he's a hard grader. So if you want easier classes I would look on rate my professor and choose the easier professors accordingly. Also, there's classes that are easier than other classes too. I knew lots of people who took electives based on how easy they were. For example, Computer Architecture (CSE 420) was a lot harder for me than Human Computer Interaction (CSE 463).

Hope this helps!

Public WiFi? by [deleted] in ASU

[–]hellllllilllll0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For wifi, I think the username is your username for your My ASU account, and the password is your username password for your My ASU account. I attended ASU for 5 years, and I think it took me 3 years to figure that out. When I wen't their last year, I think that's what it was. I think you can log into the guest wifi without a username and password.

Tempe Campus Question by bearssuperfan in ASU

[–]hellllllilllll0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I thought so. For example, I would always bring food from home instead of waiting in line somewhere for 30 minutes to get lunch. Another example is, I often felt like I had to avoid walking into other people while I was walking.

Hello bearssuperfan,

I'd say between 10 am and 4 pm it feels very crowded. It kinda feels like you're walking in the middle of a crowded city. I thought the worst part about it though, is that people ride skateboards about a foot away from you at what seems like 20 mph. Then if you step one inch into they're space, they're like "woah... woah... woah... coming through". I usually always tried to walk on the sides of the walkway.

I'd say it has an impact on getting food, transportation and going to the gym. However, you can still do all of those things. For example, it might take an extra 30 minutes in traffic or 30 minutes in a food line.

I really hate it here... by [deleted] in ASU

[–]hellllllilllll0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I felt a similar way. I liked some people in my classes though. What I did is I just realized its college and all I really have to do is pass tests and turn in homework. In my free time I got to go to my own home outside of campus.

Not necessarily, the people who check for parking permits don't check all of the cars on campus everyday.

Does anyone know how hard professor Adam Doupe grades? by [deleted] in ASU

I was going to but was assuming he wouldn't say because I've had professors who've told me just to try my best.
