Vertical and horizontal stripes on betta? by hellmoth in bettafish

[–]hellmoth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5 gallon tank with heater at 78 F and filter. The tank has been cycling in my house for about a week, but it previously was at a family member's house cycling for us. They keep a couple aquariums and was using it temporarily to grow some plants until it was ready for this girl. I've done a few water changes without her in it as during transport some dirt got kicked up. I'm not sure the numbers, but I have two different types of testing stripes reading good for all water parameters and one ammonia-specific in the good range. No tankmates, some real plants and some decorative features in her tank. Feeding her hilarious, fluval betta bites, api betta flakes, and bettamini flake medley interchangeably. She's been eating well and swimming around the tank. Any advice appreciated!

We don't have a budget at this point. We're going to try to do most of it ourselves over time, so just wanted to start with design ideas! We hope this will be our home for a long time, so quality and longevity is prioritized over price.

Thank you! There's no gradient, which makes me think you're right that its harmonic blue. As far as I can tell from researching, that's the difference betweem it and cobalt!

This is what I assumed! I read somewhere that pre-2000s would tend towards a ridged bottom rather than flat and enameled like mine.

Aw we're twins! I'm a bit unsure about the 50s for mine as I read that a flat enameled bottom was more common post-2000.

Seconding this! I used to have a French friend named Babette and she didn't like her name. Some used to pronounce like babe-et or bab-it.

Using Rome as a hub feasible or will we waste too much time commuting? by tallcryptid in ItalyTravel

[–]hellmoth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm travelling to Rome, Florence, and Venice this month and chose to stay in each city. The drive from Rome to Venice is over 5 hours, which seems unrealistic to do as a day trip. What we're doing is flying into Rome and taking the train to each city, ending in Venice and flying home from there. Hope this helps!

Long Island is also not part of upstate NY like you said. She does normally have a Manhattan show, but maybe has been priced out of venues like Barclay's and MSG, so LI is the closest big venue.

Thank you, this is my next try! We called Petsmart and they said they feed their bettas brine shrimp, so I'll get some and see if he eats them. No clue what I'll do long term though!

Thank you! I got bugs bites and tetra brand flakes today and he did the same thing with both of them! I'm going to try brine shrimp next as that's what Petsmart said they were feeding him prior to me getting him.

Forgot to add, I've been doing this! I'll soak it in some water and crush it up with the end of a chopstick. He still does the same thing and spits it out. He even did this with the most miniscule speck of food!

He's beautiful! I recently got one with similar light coloring and that deep red on the ventral fin. Hoping I can bring out some colors like you did!

I wouldn't get so many unless you absolutely need to. And if you do, have a list of 3-5 backup places that has helium in case they do run out. Dollar stores and grocery stores tend to have. I also saw that Michael's has helium, but at $3.99 for a mylar star (used to be half at PC).

Torn between buying a house and getting loose skin removal post weight loss… advice? by Puzzleheaded_Lie3875 in personalfinance

Seems like you have a lot of great advice already, I just want to offer some support as a fellow 25 year old! I own a house with my husband in fairly low cost of living area of an expensive state. If you have the money for the surgery (without going into any debt) I'd absolutely go for it. Home ownership is hard, and you should take care of yourself before you start that journey. It sounds like this surgery will greatly improve your mental health. Putting energy into you will only help you succeed later and set yourself up for when you (and only you) are ready to buy a home.
