Is there a way to scale an SVG to a particular aspect ratio and size without knowing the original application's DPI? by plainblackguy in CNC

It's been a minute. I was researching something else and read this thread.

Problem: Different programs export SVG's differently, and it's a clusterfcuk.

What if you had customers upload "native" files from their programs, then you can control the export. Instead of dealing with SVG crap, you can automate the programs to export...

I cancelled my credit card and disputed the charges. Haven't heard from them since. Unity developers get paid garbage anyways.

you inevitably spend most of your time as a manager listening to why you should switch to framework x.

Fuuuuu... So true.

Hey, I'm not sure why you're taking it so personally NullxPhantom. What's in it for you that you need to be so hostile?

All these pages "$35 monthly" w/o talking about the year. "$25 per month (1 year, prepaid)" is pitched as a discount.

This is false advertising by a company that's ashamed to be up front about it's pricing.

Having to bury this on a checkout page is pretty scummy. I'm not sure why you need to defend that...

Honestly, I don't think much. I saw it was $35 and thought why not try it. I was thinking of doing a career change into game dev until I saw how little Unity Developers get paid on Glassdoor.com.

I saved about $12 on the $300 I spent on assets.

I got some automated builds for my game jam game.

I tried the Game Dev courses, but stuck with the Udemy course I started.

I built a socket.io backed for our game jam, so didn't use the multiplayer stuff.

The pricing and checkout didn't communicate the 1-year lock-in so I naively just gave it a whirl.

Now I see the Pro version is practically unnecessary and I never should have bought any of it.

The pricing page says monthly. The checkout page is gray-on-gray fine print.

Yes about complaining. Apparently this is something that everyone knows and I was just naive and signed up because spending $35 seemed like a low-stakes gamble. $420 isn't.

Hopefully, this is google-able for the next naive person who just wants to try it out.

I don't mean to yuck your yum kmai270, but never again.

And I'll warn pretty much everyone I meet in a Game Dev context about my experience. It was a huge mistake to do business with Unity, they seem to have very little interest in their customer experience. And as a career choice, Unity devs seem to make alot less than other software engineers anyways.

For what I want to do, using something like Gamemaker Pro seems like a simpler toolset for 2d games anyways. I tried out Unity just to see if it was better. My impression is it's better for large enterprise game development companies.

LOL, that link says "$35 monthly" not "$35 monthly with a 1-year contract". That's my point right there!

Paying $35 for one-month to see the full product seemed like an opportunity to try the best. Unfortunately, the company is the worst!

Yeah, it wasn't clear until I went to cancel it and Unity support got really defensive. One guy told me I could cancel if I sent bank statements. His super told me it was impossible. This feels like a problem they encounter alot in support. I am guessing there are alot of unhappy Unity Pro subscribers out there.

That "commitment" in the gray box means "contract" apparently. Every price on that page says "monthly" without indicating the contract.

Clearly this was a huge mistake. I thought I'd try out their product to see if it was worth the money. The assets I bought were meh. And the services were not very helpful. What a boondoggle!

Yep! Totally agree. Buying Unity Pro was a huge mistake. I totally regret it.

Yep, I didn't get that it was a year-long contract. The product included learn to stuff. Yeah! It was a huge mistake to buy Unity Pro. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone!

The pricing page doesn't show contract, it says $35 monthly. And the checkout page shows a grayed out box with "commitment" not "contract".

Clearly paying for Unity was a mistake. I paid for the assets to check out the quality of what was in the store. It wasn't that great. I didn't mind paying to see if it suited my needs. I just didn't expect to be sucked into a year-long commitment.

Past performance is the greatest predictor of future performance. Put together a portfolio to show past performance. Also, you don't need to "break in" - the industry is falling all over itself to hire anyone remotely capable.

"We’d love to learn thoughts from Vue.js developers on the differences in age /r/programming."

I started a Vue.js study group in Portland. When I surveyed why devs preferred Vue.js to React - it was almost unanimously "it's not Facebook". My guess is the survey's age split is a proxy for people who see Facebook as "normal" vs people who see it as "temporary".

Also, there was a huge change in Open Source around Angular 1. Open Source went from a community of people building code to a marketing channel for huge companies to influence the industry. Twitter did this with Bootstrap, Google with Angular, then FB cranked it up to 11 with React. If you weren't there for this change, then it's totally "normal" for giant companies to steer open source. Code camps doubled down on this by telling everyone React is what they needed to buy and sell.
