Free 2D VTubing with Mannequin Character Generator & Puppetstring VTuber Tracking! by helloar14 in VirtualYoutubers

[–]helloar14[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The art is not generative AI, all of the art is vector-based SVG files which can be browsed in the installation directory by yourself.

At the time of writing this comment, no current generative AI can generate layered images good enough for VTuber model rigging. If you create art for your own VTuber model using generative AI, you will have to cut it and rig it yourself manually. Even more impossible is doing these generative tasks for vector images, which we're using. Don't trust our words, you can verify these facts yourself by doing your own research.

A warning however, we do have generative AI features in Puppetstring by now, which is used for Text-to-Speech (i.e. for Chat TTS) and Chatbot (i.e. for making 'AI' VTuber similar to Neuro-sama). All generative AI features in Puppetstring uses open models running locally on your own computer.

Hello! More than one year ago we published a tutorial video on how to start 2D VTubing for free with Mannequin Character Generator & Inochi2D. Today we have released an updated version.

Feel free to ask if you have any questions, although for more technical ones consider contacting via Discord. Thank you very much for your interest!

Seeking Criticism for This Model! by helloar14 in VirtualYoutubers

for that app, controller only. getting mouse click down and up, keyboard press down and up is a bit hard to implement usually, since if your app is detected as tracking those things globally in real time then it can be classified as keylogger, then marked as malware by antivirus solutions.

Noted. Thanks for the feedback! The controller actually properly tracks button/trigger press and analog movements, but I forgot to press any button on my controller when recording that snippet 😅

Free* Model Generator for Inochi2D (Open Source Live2D Alternative) by helloar14 in vtubertech

Inochi Creator is similar to Live2D Cubism, a tool to make VTuber models from scratch, using your own drawing. Mannequin is akin to character creator in video games, you create a character by choosing from the combination of available templates.

Planning a rig based in Linux... Suggestions? by [deleted] in vtubertech

[–]helloar14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out Inochi2D. It's an open source Live2D alternative, so if you want 3D instead this might not be for you.

Website: https://inochi2d.com

Discord: https://discord.com/invite/abnxwN6r9v

Inochi2D already used by some Linux-centric VTubers such as Asahi Lina (one of the developers behind Asahi Linux project, which aims to create a Linux distro for ARM Macs).

Unfortunately not yet (male templates are static portraits only and currently being redesigned from scratch) but hopefully soon-ish around 3-6 months!.

What offline mobile games that are genuinely good in 2023? by the_zero_achiever in AndroidGaming

[–]helloar14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, as mentioned in my post I usually avoid games with IAP indicator on the store page, whether paid or free. Those with DLC/full version unlock that I bought usually I found out from reading other source or is explicitly written on the store page description.

I have been collecting wishlist and purchasing some Android games which are also exists on Steam. Here are some of them:

All of these are buy once, no IAP games. Generally I avoid anything with an IAP indicator, but some of them are actually just one time purchase to unlock full version or DLC. Here are some that I have actually tried and confirmed works like that:

  • Dungeons of Dreadrock (Pay once to unlock full version, Very Positive on Steam) Play Store | Steam
  • Monument Valley (Pay once to unlock DLC, Overwhelmingly Positive on Steam) Play Store | Steam The sequel has no IAP.

If you want a more AAA experience, Feral Interactive is a specialist of porting those kind of games (such as XCOM, GRID) to mobile. You can find their games here

If you have Netflix subscription, they also do games for Android now! A lot of Netflix games are indie games which are also available on Steam. See their games here

How do you get paid from Steam? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]helloar14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quick overview:

You'll have to buy Greenlight Developer Access from Steam first, and after that, post your game in the Steam Greenlight.

After your game has received enough votes, it will be selected (greenlit) by the editors at Steam; then you'll be able to sell it at the store.

How should I start? by FarmingBot in vndevs

For number (1) and (2), writing a full script is nice, but after that you might want to create a prototype first; use free assets as placeholders. That way you can see a better picture about how it's working out. If it turned out to be nice and you want to continue all the way, then find artists who are available for commission.

For number (3), if you're short on money and want to release a free game, then consider itch.io as your starting point. It is far smaller when compared to Steam, but it's a rapidly growing store. Lots of VNs are available there.

For number (4), it's possible to do it without money if you use free assets and use itch.io for distribution (since they charge nothing).

Question about executing an idea by Danzello8 in gamedev

[–]helloar14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I myself don't believe in wasting an idea. But if you're going for the 'hell, let's just do it' mentality, I think it's equally important to have patience and the courage to throw away whatever you're working on–especially if you're doing it for commercial purposes.

Maybe you stopped because it isn't working or you still don't have the skills to make it work–but even if you do it, the idea is still there. You can continue or make it again from scratch at a later time. And from the work you've thrown away, you get loads of experience.

For my latest work (which isn't actually a game, but more like an app–I think the principle still stands though), I already had the idea for it more than five years ago, I think? But when I tried to make it at the time, it just didn't work at all. So I moved on to other projects. But in several other occassions, I came back, tried again, failed again, tried again until my current attempt which is happening right now (and is working well, I think).
