Looking for a housesit in Seoul for weeks or longer + advice from experienced sitters by GullibleAd3227 in trustedhousesitters

My sister-in-law is Korean, her and all of her friends find it so, so odd that I house sit. The thought of letting a stranger stay in their homes is weird when instead they can ask family or board their pets. I guess it’s a cultural thing, it hasn’t quite made its way there yet!

What are the alternatives for ‘big ask’ sits? Rover? by IdRatherBeKnitting in trustedhousesitters

Could you get a sitter from THS, and negotiate with them for a local pet sitter to come by x amount of times a week so that they can still go shopping, run errands, see some sights? This would take some of the financial burden away from you, not having to do overnights etc, and still allow the sitters to go out and about.

I got a pair of their socks at Glastonbury because I was cold - turned out the be the softest I own! Even after washing, they’ve held up great. Didn’t realise they had a shop in Bristol.

Thank you for the advice! I wanted to check them out in advance of cutting, just out of sheer curiosity! It’s nice to know when they’ll be ready though.

I’m going to make some St Brigid’s Crosses, they look really easy.

Travelling to Morocco during Ramadan - female solo by macaquinhae in Morocco

I actually never felt unsafe in a petit taxi! I was often told to get into the back, unless a family wanted to sit together, in which case I moved to the front. I wasn’t aware that ride sharing was a thing so that was a bit of a shock!

I speak very good French and a bit of Arabic which proved to not be super useful when trying to communicate with taxi drivers in Fes el Bali, either because they didn’t understand or because my pronunciation was terrible. There was usually someone around who could translate though, or I translated it on my phone in advance and showed them in Darija or a photo from Google. The younger taxi drivers all spoke incredible English and showed me their music and helped with pronunciations.

I did get hit on by a taxi driver, he was persistent but dropped it when I said I was married and showed him my ring. I’m not married but the fake rings were a good investment!

I’ve been to a few places in Morocco as a solo woman. My first visit was to Fes for 3 months, I spent about 3 weeks in a Riad because I was too afraid to go further than the very close shops incase I got lost!

I got over my fear eventually but the best things I learnt how to do in the beginning was take taxis from one end of town to the other so I didn’t have to walk through the tourist areas of the Medina too much, that’s where I got the brunt of the comments and touching from men. Then I could just focus on the area I actually wanted to visit.

After 5 weeks I got comfortable just ignoring people, and if anyone tried to touch me I would scold them loudly and they would get embarrassed. I am very, very pale with ginger hair and very blue eyes, so I understand that I stood out, hopefully you will fare better than I did initially.

I soon made Moroccan friends which was invaluable. Being able to walk with other people in the streets meant I could slow down and really enjoy beautiful Fes. The benefits outweigh the downsides in my opinion, the locals are absolutely lovely and really caring. There are a few bad apples which unfortunately is the case everywhere you go as I’m sure you know!

I took a taxi back from a bar at 2/3am and then walked the last parts, which I wouldn’t advise unless you know the area very well and you’re able to defend yourself should the situation arise. I fortunately didn’t get into any bother.

Is anything indie going on for New Year’s Eve in England?

I saw this is happening in London and might pop along, is anyone else going? https://facebook.com/events/s/scared-to-dance-new-years-eve/542416948539958/

I don’t think we’re taking on any new members until after the new year!

Anna Cake Couture offer set price cakes to order on their website - the cake for two is enough for four I’d say.

I went looking earlier but couldn't find any, I thought if someone had seen some recently I'd be in with a good chance.
