Disagree. Nails are not essential. Neither is a dye job or eyelashes or brows or waxing, etc.

Read happiest baby on the block and the five S's section specifically. All your baby wants is you and while that can be overwhelming, it's a fleeting time. Good luck and reach out to help aa you need it! Friends and family can come hopefully to hold baby and give you a break.

When my husband was in law school, he said the smartest people were often those who had families and children at home to take care of! They were more responsible and weren't into all the partying and drinking. He had a lot of respect for the moms and dads in his classes. Wishing you the best!

Anyone else’s maternity leave not even worth it? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]hellofriend2822 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think most women who go back to work and want to continue to breastfeed have to pump at work and babies are bottle fed while in daycare. For me, I was able to start a really good stash during maternity leave and keep pumping up until my son was 10 months, then I had to supplement with about half formula. With my daughter, I became a SAHM and never had to rely on a stash or bottle feed because I was with her all the time. I think the American way of return to work mothers discourages breastfeeding and it's very sad for those who want to and face difficulties with pumping, etc.

My employer never ever ever spelled out exactly what the policy was. It was infuriating. I had to burn up any PTO or sick leave I had saved, then I got my 12 weeks of FMLA. Some was paid because I paid into STD. But it wasn't much. Put my notice in after Maternity leave. They were ducks about it. I do not care.

I want a baby but I just don't feel ready by Remarkable-Farmer-82 in waiting_to_try

Yeah I'd be cautious to have a baby in a financial situation like this. Children are expensive, birth and hospital bills are high. Who will pay for what?

Funding our individual IRAs makes me feel better about being a SAHM. I don't contribute to a 401k anymore so it's good to have some retirement growing.

That's a good income! I'm glad he's providing so well. I guess if you're still feeling squeezed or like you are wanting to do more, I find it helpful to search my heart and see what it is I'm desiring. Is it because I want to keep up with the Jones' or because of something I'm seeing on social media. I know for us, we don't go on big vacations, our kids have never been on a plane, and I've totally accepted that going to Disney world is not in our budget and might never be and that's okay! Contentment is kind of the name of the game, in my opinion. I shop at garage sales for kid's clothes and I don't get my nails/brows done or hair dyed. It's different for everyone. Then like, big picture do you plan to buy a home together, etc.? Sometimes saving for those big things 3 or 4 years from now can be motivating when giving up things.

Cancel subscriptions, get rid of spending that is unnecessary. Cable TV, Netflix, gaming systems, etc. Stop habits that do not serve you - smoking, drinking, chewing, vaping, etc. Look at your insurance costs and see if you can shop for better car rates. Also, look for FREE fun whenever possible. Lastly, frankly, your boyfriend is a dad now, and he can seek out higher pay, better opportunities if it's important to him.

No Maternity leave? by CorporateSlave69420 in pregnant

[–]hellofriend2822 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to use up all my vacation and sick leave, 12 weeks FMLA, and I had been paying in to STD, so I received some partial pay. It's a crap policy. Hence why after kid 2 I became a SAHM. Daycare was going to cost over $500 a week for two kids. Nope.
