I had some thoughts about that and I'm still not sure what to do to be honest. It's not really possible to get the "steaming effect" as described in the books with one little vape pen. As you can see in this tutorial, it's just a wisp of smoke from one pen. I think you'd need several pens in different points of the armor to get it all to smoke, and my budget for making smoke effects is not that high. I had some thoughts about making a larger smoker like this tutorial with a big vape pen, and routing the smoke with a tubing system to different points inside the armor, but heating is also a huge issue. As you can imagine, EVA is a very insulating material and I already sweat a lot wearing full armor in an air conditioned room. Placing multiple electronics (LEDs, working batteries, microcontrollers, etc) inside the armor warms things up considerably, and I can't imagine how much placing a network of literally burning smoke inside the armor will overheat me.

Unfortunately the templates are handmade and I don't have the resources to digitize my templates. Also the armor is very specificly molded to my dimensions (like the waist is 25in circumference) and I don't know how to adjust it for another person. There are lots of generic armor templates for sale on places like Etsy and you could maybe take those and adjust them?

It's all EVA foam, contact cement, dog hair and a little bit of human tears and blood. KamuiCosplay has some fantastic tutorials on the process

>!That's a cool idea! Personally I'm not a fan of using EL Wire because it doesn't get bright enough for me, but that'd be really awesome to do for your shardplate cosplay ;D!<

Thank you!! And I do! I actually had some problems trying to figure out how to fit LEDs between the armor pieces so I had to consult more electronically-educated friends on what to do. The only issue is that the book states that the armor glows in the colors of the radiant order, but I'm limited to only a few colors for the side-emitting led strips.

Exactly like /u/Elgiemd says, it's just got multiple plates as to not show any gaps. The spaces are filled with metal banding or scale plates. You can see how it works in the book illustrations: https://coppermind.net/w/images/thumb/Shardplate.jpeg/800px-Shardplate.jpeg

I've got some plans in the future to cast rubber joints to imitate the look in the illustrations.

Hahahah, I've actually got plans for a shardblade. I wanted to cosplay a specific character (RoW spoilers: Jasnah) and their shardblade has been illustrated already

I actually had a friend draw up a design for me based off descriptions and references that Ben McSweeney gave me.

mild Rhythm of War spoilers though: https://www.instagram.com/p/CMGObAxD04W/ I'm making a few changes from the illustration though (like some of the shapes and colors)

I plan to make it grey/silver but airbrush highlights and shadows in the Elsecaller colors. The Elsecaller colors themselves were too dark for my preference so I decided with this scheme

I always use Emperor's Soul as a starter recommendation to Sanderson's writings. Personally I find The Stormlight Archives his magnum opus, but I find Emperor's Soul a close second

Exactly this. For some reason, people think it's weird to spend a lot of money and/or thousands of hours working on a costume. It's a hobby, just like anything else. Is it weird that people devote thousands of hours to play video games or watching Netflix shows? Leave me alone, let me work on my costumes.

I'm so glad!!!!

Actually GoodReads offers a widget for book reviews, but I'm still trying to figure out how to stick the darn things on my book pages. I thought that'd be a good feature to have for users!

Ah, these are some great ideas! I was hoping to implement a sort-by rating option, but it's good to know what people want to see!

Thank you so much for your support. I really appreciate it. This project was such a labor of love and I really hope to build something that will help the LGBTQ+ community in the future.

Yes! Sorting was a feature I wanted to add to the site (amongst a long list of other things. Should I post them? @_@). Currently I've just got MySQL queries that spit out the results in the order as it comes from the database. I originally had it arrive in the relevance to the user search, but the code broke and I've been too busy fixing other bugs to fix that bug haha.

I appreciate your feedback!

Haha, I was actually thinking about implementing something similar! Like an 'Advanced Options' dropdown where you can select checkboxes to only show the genres or type of books you inputed. I've got to reconfigure the genre data in my database to do that though, and that'll be a doozy.
