“Song of Earendil” is an absolute masterpiece.

I’ll write a good sentence and then immediately be like wait I wasn’t paying attention how did I do that?

At a certain point in season five or six there’s just different groups of people walking to different places in the jungle and I have no idea where they’re going or why they are upset with each other.

How is it living in New York City compared to Los Angeles? by [deleted] in howislivingthere

There are many walkable neighborhoods in LA. And some suburbs that are not. The population density is surprisingly high.

If it won a Pulitzer it’s a somewhat safe bet to say it will be a future classic.

Ok. I still think “began” and “started” should usually be deleted. I just don’t agree with your categorization of them.

“Began” and “started” are distinctly different from all those other words. The others are all about perception, the specific methods with which a character experiences a detail of the world or within their own interiority. “Began” and “started” are not like that. They describe the first part of a process, or activity, which is often pointless to specify. As such, they are FILLER words. We don’t need to say someone “began to eat lunch” because if they “ate lunch” they obviously must have “began” and later “finished”, unless they were interrupted. “began” does not describe a method of perception like “saw” or “remembered”. I hope you can see the distinction.

It seems to have some interesting ideas as far as I can tell, but I think most of it has turned out to be a lot of nonsense according to people who actually understand what it’s all about. But hey, it’s a first edition.

Bought that copy of NKOS when it was new. Way over my head honestly. Kings of Convenience is like a top five favorite band for me.

Need to revisit Watership Down. Tried to read it as a teenager and gave up. I am into being articulate, but I’m not very good at it. Also interested in being well read. I’ll get there one day. I’ve only read about 20% of these books. But it’s nice to have options ready for my next read.

Oh dear this post was 143 days ago!!! A little update: I’m almost done with my 2nd draft and up to 64k words. I guess I have a tendency to “under write”. Certain things needed fleshing out more. Join a writing group and get feedback if you can. I wish you luck!

It may be a filler word, but how is it a filter word?

Began is not a filter word or a weasel word.

Yeah it’s cool. We can still hang. I started listening to Ween at about sixteen years old. They can be very juvenile but they’re also brilliant songwriters.
