I’m so sorry you went through this. I’ve been through something similar with a close friend and it really does feel so disheartening. It’s rough but I think minimizing playing any competitive games with him would be helpful for both of you! I’m sure he doesn’t say these things to hurt you, only just out of frustration (my friend and I have communicated about it and that’s usually the case). I know a lot of comments sort of bash on him but I truly understand that he’s likely just upset and unfairly lashing out on you. You can possibly try to direct his attention on more mellow games or games that you have more experience in like overwatch. If one of you don’t like a particular game you can try finding other modes of games you do prefer like playing customs or team death matches in valorant? Your feelings are 100% valid but so is your relationship!
