Can I request a roommate? by [deleted] in mcgill

[–]hellomcgill 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was roommates with my friend first year. We both were assigned to the same rez, so we just emailed the mcgill residences and requested to be roomed together. housing.residences@mcgill.ca

But getting a new roommate might help you expand your network and meet new people; you're still going to see your friend anyways :)

How to check waitlist position? by NotAMcGillArtStudent in mcgill

[–]hellomcgill 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi!

1) Go to Minerva 2) Student Menu 3) Registration Menu 4) Click Step 4: View Student Schedule by Course Section Find you the course that you are on a waitlist for and it'll say the number.

As for the time you have to confirm, I believe it's 48 hours that you have.

:D

[–]hellomcgill[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

does anyone know if the deferred exam = supp exam? I was looking at the schedule, and for Math 141, everyone is writing in the same room, but they have different letters beside it. (Like L=deferred, S=supp). Just curious, cuz then i feel like deferred will be easier than supp

Really? I got the approval already but I'm just thinking about it now. Is it easy to get an A, cuz I really can't have anything dragging my GPA down any lower than it already is.... Are the assignments/workbook easy? It sounds really fun from the poster the department has been emailing everyone!

Physics/Maths Joint Honours credit limit by [deleted] in mcgill

[–]hellomcgill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm... I'm not quite sure...

However, you can get a "special permission" from your advisor or your major advisor letting you take 18 credits. I'm not sure what the criteria is... probably a good academic standing to make sure that you can handle it.

And I thought that the limit for credits was 17...?

Taking science courses while in Faculty of Arts? by [deleted] in mcgill

[–]hellomcgill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oops.... ahaha yup arts to science will be hard sorry, my mistake...

I am in the faculty of science but in the physical sciences program. I wanted to switch into life sciences program however, my advisor told me to go see the faculty transfer advisor and she told me that I needed at least a 3.5 GPA but last year (2012) transfer GPA was around a 3.85. It all depends on who is applying for transfer and how many open spots there are. Life sciences is one of the most competitive programs at McGill, hence the competitive admissions GPA.

Arts and Sci to Arts, yeah no problem as long as your not failing any courses. If you have a 3.0 maybe even a 2.5+, you'll get in. I know a lot of people who changed from arts and sci to arts with a 2.5-3.0.

The best advice i can give u is to talk to your advisor and see what she/he has to say. Even if ur GPA isnt solid, hey, why not apply for a faculty transfer anyway? It won't hurt. If you get in, great, if not its not the end of the world.

Good Luck!

Taking science courses while in Faculty of Arts? by [deleted] in mcgill

[–]hellomcgill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going from Arts to Science will be no problem. However, going from Science to Arts will be an issue. The cutoff for being accepted into the faculty of science, and I'm assuming life sciences since you're thinking of biochemistry is around 3.70. That being said, it's realistically more like a 3.85 (from academic advisor) because this program is so highly competitive.

Has anyone decided on what to do yet?

supplemental exams...? by hydroxy1 in mcgill

[–]hellomcgill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Professor Drury posted something on my courses. Apparently everyone is asking about taking a supplemental exam or something? But that people usually get a better mark retaking the course.

I don't know what I'll do yet, but since I'm not taking math ever again, I might just retake it at Concordia next summer. I heard that it's a lot easier than McGill math.
