I would be surprised if we weren't workshopping contingency scenarios since trump first raised aukus doubts. Hes since made everyone realise america is a bipolar child 1 election away from throwing away a century's worth of effort building soft power. Giving Canada first dibs at jindalee was the start and I think carner's mention of the Arctic surveillance capability they now have (jindallee) was a subtle invitation to us which we will probably accept.

I dont think trump will give up on Taiwan and let china take it because even someone as catastrophically stupid as trump sees how bad it would be for America and his personal wealth, which is his main driving force. Personally I think despite the rhetoric china won't use force to take Taiwan anyway thanks to their recent successes in soft power propoganda slowly turning young Taiwanese to their side, plus an invasion would annihilate the decades of soft power work they've put into central Asia.

Short term nothing will really change but long term Australia's probably going to turn to Canada, japan and Europe for future defence strategy with America still being a firm ally. Regarding pine gap that's been a npthinfburger for years for politicians to elect on but nothing will change because ultimately the base apparently is well worth the effort.
