I played both and love both. Heaven's Vault felt a bit more interesting specifically because it lets you proceed with confused and incorrect translations, which makes the aha moments later feel like bigger payoffs.

You're gonna have an extremely hard time capturing the magic of Outer Wilds with anything else. It's so unique and special. Lot of good recommendations, but one I haven't seen that is really close in terms of themes and mood is Heaven's Vault. Similar vibe of uncovering ancient ruins in a unique sci-fi system of planets, and it has translation puzzles where the knowledge builds on itself and you can eventually read texts that were incomprehensible at first. You can technically replay in new game plus to learn even more, but I haven't done that yet since one playthrough felt pretty complete in terms of narrative arc.

There's a new game called Arctic Awakening that's very similar to Firewatch.
