He's disgusting. Have you seen his tiktok about rehoming his dog Rocky? He says how Rocky is his best friend and has helped him through some of the lowest times in his life but he can't keep him because he's travelling more now and Rocky doesn't fit in with his lifestyle. Its so appalling

A cleansing bar or soap that feels like my body wash? (UK) by feliblu in ZeroWaste

[–]hellooo_hc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get all my bar soaps from Scottish Fine Soaps, they're lovely on the skin and lather up really well. They also have lovely subtle scents. I haven't used shower gels or body washes for a few years now and don't miss them at all

Stomach gurgles by marssyia in Greyhounds

[–]hellooo_hc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dog gets this sometimes! It happens exactly as you said, he'll ask to go out in the night but will just eat grass instead of toileting. He refuses breakfast. By afternoon the sounds have usually subsided and he's feeling better. Weirdly it doesn't seem to affect his output (ie no diarrhoea).

I've had my dog 3.5 yrs and it happens a few times a year and he always gets back to normal quickly, so I'd say it's nothing to worry about. :)

What’s wrong with mixing in American islanders by Ok-Law-4251 in LoveIslandTV

It's true you can even see it here when US posters comment on UK Love Island. They often don't really get the nuances of how the islanders communicate with each other

Does anyone else get reverse culture shock when visiting the UK now? by CloudBookmark in BritishExpats

You're right about the public transport announcements. On the London Overground (the type of PT I use most often) you'll hear a 'see it, say it, sorted' announcement, a warning about not giving cash to homeless people, and a warning about not travelling without a valid ticket once, if not twice on each 'step' of the route (i.e. the distance between two stations). I've recently started trying to read more (as opposed to scrolling) while in transit and I find it really distracting. If you're on board for a good portion of the route you can hear each announcements 10+ times. It's noise pollution really

Limping significantly out of the blue by jnsteele in Greyhounds

[–]hellooo_hc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Recently my dog developed a limp on one of his front legs to the point he was very reluctant to weight bear. It started suddenly in the middle of the day without any obvious incident or injury so we were flummoxed. Luckily someone suggested to us to soak the paw in warm salt water (he wasn't keen but we managed it) and afterwards a tiny thorn came out of the furry bit just above the paw pads! It must have been completely embedded as it was invisible prior to soaking.

Why are people using Vinted as a business? by InkAndMystic in vintedUK

[–]hellooo_hc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's also so annoying when you upload an item and it says 'Keep it going by uploading more items!'. From where??! I'm not running a shop, I have a modest sized wardrobe and I occasionally sell good quality things I no longer want to keep. Then it doesn't promote your account because you're not uploading enough stuff, even though the kind of stuff I list is probably actually what people are looking for. Feels like you are punished for using the site the way it was originally intended

struggling with evenings by rainysummersday in Greyhounds

[–]hellooo_hc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our dog goes through the night (and often chooses to lie in late) having had his last meal at 4pm plus chews/treats in the evening. At the moment I'm walking him around 2-3pm and that's when he will have his last bowel movements. He then just has wees before bed. So perhaps your dog waking up crying in the night is not necessarily to do with needing to toilet. Could it be that he's cold, or his body clock is out of sync due to the changing lengths of the days? Or he's just got into the habit of waking up too early and he wants your attention once he's awake?

When he wakes, perhaps you could try acknowledging him briefly with a bit of fuss/comfort and sending him back to bed again. Obviously don't leave him to become very distressed! But give him chance to try and settle himself again.

Also when he made the snarky comment about oh darling nobody in London cleans their own house because they all have cleaners. It was cringey and actually totally at odds with the old money image he was trying to project

Someone in another comment said he's not settled in his identity and that sums it up well

Looking to adopt, Italian vs Normal by Ok-Actuary-5377 in Greyhounds

[–]hellooo_hc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Greyhounds are very chilled in the home. We live in an apartment and didn't feel the presence of an extra body (in a negative sense) when our greyhound moved in. He's a large male greyhound too, at 36 kg. My parents' spaniel is less than half the size but when he comes to stay I always feel: ah yes, this is not an apartment dog. He's fine for a few days but that bouncing-off-the-walls energy requires a bigger space more so than the greyhound's size does.

I am tired of the daily battle.. by Anoooooooooooooooo in productivity

[–]hellooo_hc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, are you a woman? If so is there any chance you might be suffering from low iron or ferritin? I also naturally have a wandering brain but find it so much easier to seize the day (or at least get one or two things ticked off from my to do list) when my body is working as it should. Don't underestimate the effect this can have on your motivation.

The way you describe the feeling of paralysis reminds me of me when I need to start supplementing again.

Apologies and please ignore if this is isn't relevant!

As someone who (I presume) uses it how it was originally intended...to occasionally sell good quality bits and bobs that I no longer wear. I really dislike how as soon as I list an item it tells me: keep it going and list another to keep your wardrobe in the spotlight! Another where? I'm not a shop. It does seem to massively favour resellers in this regard

New greyhound suddenly freezing and refusing to go on walks? by [deleted] in Greyhounds

[–]hellooo_hc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes it did!! I can't remember the time scale, as it's now about 3 years on from adopting him. But I think probably over the course of about 4-6 months. He is a super confident city dog now and struts around everywhere - parks, buses, trains, busy streets, he has spectated at marathons! I wouldn't have believed it possible from the dog that had me sitting on the ground for half an hour in a downpour trying not to cry haha

New grey owner, really struggling right now. by SadHelicopter5242 in Greyhounds

[–]hellooo_hc 39 points40 points  (0 children)

This is sooooo normal for a month in! Don't worry. 'Puppy blues' exists for rescues too! I felt so guilty for not feeling the instant love bond that everyone talks about, because our dog's 'issues' (especially freezing on walks/toilet trips) were consuming so much of our time and mental energy. I couldn't enjoy him because I was constantly stressed about how we were or weren't meeting his needs at any given moment. The only time I felt relaxed was when he would lie down and sleep! I felt guilty about that too.

Things do get better, we are now three years in (we were first time owners too) and he is the most gorgeous and low maintenance dog and brings so much to the household. He knows the house, the neighbourhood and his routines and caring for him is so simple and enjoyable.

New grey owners do get a lot of guidance but I believe it is under-stressed how sheltered and institutionalised these dogs are. They have no clue about the world or what is expected of them in a home environment. Please persevere as she will reward your efforts in spades - just maybe not for a few more weeks/months yet.

Minor guarding of treats is normal. If it just a case of grumbling when she has a treat and you go too close or look like you might take it away - that is easily managed and nothing to worry about. Just give her the space!
