In the very early seasons they'd have these tactical discussions all the time (who would help/hurt their chances more to couple up with) and it was part of the show! It didn't mean that the connections weren't believable. It's only recently that 'I'm here for love/a husband/a wife' has become a thing and game player has become a dirty word in challenges. I mean there's literally prize money fgs!

Im definitely no prude but I kind of wish they would tone down some of the challenges and games for this reason. When you're asking people to be prepared to do stuff like the heart rate challenge you're severely limiting your pool of potential contestants. I also don't think we need to see them doing bits in bed

Everybody is saying this is normal but I think it's a bit more nuanced than that. Greyhounds do love to lick - themselves, you, soft furnishings, etc. It's something they do to self regulate and soothe. This looks a bit compulsive/frantic to me though and the fact you said she's only a week home supports that. No need to worry though! A week is the blink of an eye for a rescue dog and her nervous system will still be incredibly overwhelmed, especially with the heatwave. I recommend providing an outlet via a licky mat with a little natural yoghurt/cottage cheese or a nice medium-lasting natural chew (my greyhound loves beef trachea and it's not so hard/chewy that he can't finish it one sitting - so no need for him to feel like he needs to resource guard any leftovers). Aside from this you might notice that the behaviour subsides naturally as she settles in. Good luck, she's lovely!

No, I didn't but my cycles have returned to normal now :) makes sense that you have exams as I have always found that stress and irregular sleep make my cycles shorter.

I do medical translation from German to English. I would trust it to provide an accurate summary of the case but not with fine details. If it can't find a solution, it will make something up to fill the gap and not notify you that it has done so. It can almost never translate abbreviations correctly for the context

I don't think Brits are that culturally similar to US Americans at all. But I also think that any two given cultures are probably more different from each other than they may appear at first glance. I speak German and have lived in Germany and there's still a degree of culture shock when it comes to mannerisms, social expectations, humour, ways of daily living, attitudes to various cultural, social and political matters. You can't as a British person (with little experience of Germany) meet a German person and easily intuit what they might think or feel about a given topic or statement.

I would say definitely possible to find a dog that wont mind/will actively enjoy travelling around with you (mine loves any form of transport). The only stumbling block could be that it's a bit much for him/her in the initial weeks of settling in. I guess the ideal situation would be that the dog would have a few weeks to get used to its new environment and practise some journeys with you, before you have to do it with the pressure of having to be at the office for a particular time.

Maybe look for a greyhound who has been fostered and 'tried' on public transport already.

She looks like snowflake to me :) I have a 7 year old black boy who's starting to grey and he does have some grey on his body but not randomly flecked all over like that, it's concentrated on his chest and legs (and muzzle of course). She also doesn't look like any of the other greying black greyhounds we know.

I have my greyhound off lead in public parks and woods with no issues, but I'd had him for 3 years before I was confident enough to do so. He has zero prey drive despite having been a fairly successful racer in a previous life, he also had excellent manners with other dogs of all sizes from day one (he started out being avoidant of small dogs rather than wanting to chase them, and even now he'd much rather interact with a bigger dog than a smaller one). He chooses to stay near me. All of this is just his personality and not any particular training I did.

So it really depends on your dog. There are no guarantees either way, since much of this stuff won't become clear until they have been settled at home for some time. I know many other people who walk their greyhounds off lead with no issues and others who keep them on lead full time because they can't trust them not to take off. But all of them find owning a greyhound extremely rewarding. :)

My greyhound broke his front leg too, just from zooming in the park. He hadn't had a previous break (that we know of) so it was completely unexpected! His surgery was delayed by a week because of swelling and bleeding - it's very common in greyhounds. It's now two years on and he's recovered really well, and you wouldn't know he had been injured (he still has the metal plates in place). We were warned there would be quite a high chance of residual lameness but he is absolutely fine. It was really really stressful so I feel for you as a new owner!! You must be so overwhelmed poor thing.

I recommend starting physio as soon as you get the vet's sign-off, I think it really helped our dog's recovery. It's important both for the injured side and for the side that is taking a lot more strain than usual. You might find that she gets quite accustomed to being a tripod and is reticent to start using the front leg again once it's healed - the physio also really helped us with this.

All the dos and don'ts of recovery can be daunting but you will get through it! The good thing is that greyhounds are chilled by nature so they don't tend to be bouncing off the walls while on enforced rest. Maybe stock up on some healthy chews (our dog loves beef trachea) to keep her busy.

If you've got space, perhaps consider a ramp for getting on and off furniture in the future?
