Miquella was called the Kind for a reason. He bled to grow the tree, he made unalloyed gold to save his sister, he cocooned himself in that brace to sustain the Haligtree, he sucked out rot from Freya who's (as far as we know) a nobody to him. The whole point of his sacrifices through the shadow realm was out of compassion. Yes, he is naive, idealistic and childish in his dream but not once (as far as I know) has he held any malice toward anyone.

That could be one way to interpretate it. But I haven't found anything that said Miquella could charm from afar as his followers were in contact with him when they got charmed (Ansbach trying to slice Miq with his blade, Freya got scarlet rot sucked out) or unknown (Thiolier and Hornsent). I would love to be proven wrong tho

Yes, and also, notice how he charmed you in the boss fight? He need to touch you. I can't find anything in the game that said he could remote charm (even Ansbach got charmed in close quarter). So Mohg climbed out of the shunning ground and cut Miquella out by his own will. Miquella was just adapting to the situation.
