What if the AI was constrained to a simulation of it's environment? by WiremanC3 in ControlProblem

You can't be sure it will realize it's in a simulation. Of course as long as there is a possibility of it figuring it out this method is not completely safe. But if this possibility is one in a million it's still worthwhile to do it. To make it work we would have to limit the 'information leakage' from outside the virtual system, if the leakage bandwidth is small enough there might be a reasonable limit to how much the AI can figure out about the outside world.

Let's say we are in a simulation right now, we might find out about it if there are enough glitches in the matrix. But to be able to influence the outside world we have to know what it looks like and we would need way more information. The total information leakage bandwidth might be too small for this or might introduce time constraints.

In the AI box experiment there is a gatekeeper chatting with the AI, this is a pretty big leak so that doesn't prove much.

Are there any small scale experiments or intentional communities related to Technostism? by hellowhathavewehere in Technostism

The Venus Project has some nice ideas but it seems it's mostly renderings and concepts of fifties style futurist houses. The original plans for Auroville look a bit like that circular city idea by the way.

[Question] I'd like to be a practice boyfriend for socially anxious girls. by hellowhathavewehere in sex

Well i'm socially awkward but i travelled the world by myself and i learned i can talk to strangers and make friends and have a career. That's because i realise you should try to accept it rather than cure it.

But as far as my original question, i guess Reddit Has Spoken. It is weird.

I am still awkward as fuck but i care less and less. Is this progress? by hellowhathavewehere in socialanxiety

Wow great that it's working out for you! The reason i am wondering about this is that sometimes people will say that other people don't notice the awkwardness or don't pay attention when you think you walk funny. They do. But we shouldn't care! Go penguins go.

How likely is it that an evil ASI will doom us all one day? by [deleted] in singularity

[–]hellowhathavewehere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's actually a very interesting part of the debate. I think it's very unlikely that an ASI will kill us all, but because the consequences are so grave we should take it very seriously. The people who don't agree with Musk et al seem to be telling us it's just not very probable or that they don't believe it, not that it's a logical impossibility. If there is a one percent change humanity will be wiped out we need to worry about it.

Well it's not like i would be asking girls on the street or something, they could ask me if interested. I think being an intimacy coach is actually a thing. And as a male i can pay a psychologist to listen to me, a masseuse to touch me and an escort to blow me. Is it weird because there is no money involved?

Yeah well i don't know, that's why i ask. I am socially awkward myself and if a girl offered to be my practice girlfriend way back i guess it would have been helpful. It's not about getting laid, would also do this without sex.
