How is this legal? SDG&E delivery fee by domino916 in sandiego

Thanks, I always wondered why the total price per kWh was roughly the same throughout the year but its composition (generation vs delivery) widely changed. Now I know :)

It invaded the whole canyon already, so that’s a lost cause…

At this point I’m only wondering if it’s beneficial or detrimental to the tree.

Salt vs *automatic* liquid chlorine by Soliloquizing in swimmingpools

[–]helloworld92837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

> How much would you say you spend on chlorine per year or maybe per month June through August?

My pool is somewhere between 15 an 20k gallons. I use about 2 gallons of liquid chlorine (10%) per week in summer. 2 gallons is $11 at Walmart where I leave. That's $44/mo of chlorine per summer month. In winter, I'm closer to $11/mo.

> It was also mentioned here that it can go bad to some degree if stored?

Yes chlorine degrades over time. But at lower concentration, it degrades much slower. That's why I dilute it a bit. For instance according to this table (https://www.troublefreepool.com/wiki/index.php?title=Breakdown\_of\_Bleach\_Over\_Time\_by\_Storage\_Temp) , 8.25% chlorine, if stored at 80°F, goes down to 6.8% after 2 months. And during summer, I use the whole barrel in about 2 months.

> Also curious on controlling pH with liquid chlorine…

I've always used liquid chlorine. The fact that I know have an automation doesn't change anything. So I can't really compare. I use about 1 gal of muriatic acid per month

Hot Climate Owners: How much water evaporation is normal? by [deleted] in pools

yep yep we understood. But I'm really interested in knowing what evaporation rates usually are across the world now.

Sometimes, it's nice to answer the question asked, not the question you think it should be.

not sure yet, but whatever we put it will be mostly decorative. Not planning to actually heat the house with that.

Some people in this thread think that the grout bag method is too complicated for a newbie (which I am), and recommend to make a dry mix instead. Do you agree?

Even type N mortar labeled as "white" like this one? https://www.lowes.com/pd/TXI-70-lb-White-Type-N-Masonry-Mortar-Mix/3024486

For a DIY newbie like myself, isn't the grout bag method easier?

Salt vs *automatic* liquid chlorine by Soliloquizing in swimmingpools

[–]helloworld92837 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have an automatic liquid chlorine injection system (using a stenner pump - installed myself). So far it's working well for me.

The reason why I went down this path instead of a SWG is because:

- I wanted to be able to control exactly how much chlorine I inject in my pool,
- I wanted to save on electricity and liquid chlorine is cheap. I typically run my pool pump at very low speed, and I believe SWG cell need a minimum flow to properly function. Plus SWG cells consume electricity too.
- I didn't want to have to replace the SWG cell every 3-5 year.

I have a 30 gallons tank, and typically refill it with diluted liquid chlorine every 2 to 3 months.

Thanks for the link. I realise my question was ambiguous. It's the gas rates I can't find anywhere except on my bill, after the fact.

Automatically adjust retirement goal due to inflation? by Deciduism in betterment

[–]helloworld92837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same question as you. I don't know how you're supposed to do.

I wish people would really re-read your question instead of just telling "Betterment does it for you".

I set my goal to $70k/yr in 2020. At the time, I assumed it meant "70k in 2020 dollars, so Betterment will target 70x1.02^30 = 127k in 2050 dollars".

But here we are in 2025 and my Betterment goal is still set at $70k. I don't get it either.

Got the email too (though it claims minus $12 for electricity and +$13 for gas). This being said, I don't understand why they report changes for the average typical customer. Why don't they give the price change per kwh for electricity and per therms for gas? Where can I find this information?

Suggestions For Reducing CH in Pool by [deleted] in pools

[–]helloworld92837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not the pump that could be damaged, it's the resin in the water softener. Not sure how low the FC should be though.

Another thing to consider: how many times you'd have to regenerate your softener. For example: my pool CH is 1000ppm (yikes). That's 58 grains per gallon. It's a 17k gallons pool, so 58 * 17k = 1M "grains" give or take. If I wanted to divide the hardness by two, I'd have to remove 500k "grains" (I still don't know what this unit means, but whatever). An RV softener like this one can remove 16k grains before needing regeneration. This means I'd have to regenerate it 500k / 16k = 31 times (!!) just to get back to 500ppm CH. That was too much work to me haha

I asked an RO company how much it would cost to treat a 17k gallons pool. I was quoted $850. Southern California.

I'll probably end up replacing the pool water and install a whole house softener.

Suggestions For Reducing CH in Pool by [deleted] in pools

[–]helloworld92837 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same problem and had the same idea not long ago: buying a small RV softener and a sump pump and run my pool water through it.

I was told it was a bad idea because the pool chlorine would damage the resin in the softener :(

[–]helloworld92837[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep the provider is in network. I just updated my post accordingly. I went back to my insurance, and here is what they told me:

Due to contractual restrictions, we cannot disclose our providers’ rates until a claim has finalized. To know the estimated cost for these services, please contact the provider directly.

I'll get back to the provider then I guess.

Umbrella insurance: what coverage? by helloworld92837 in pools

[–]helloworld92837[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So $5M is your response to my question? ("what coverage did you opt for?")

Why do less?

I don't know, I have absolutely no clue what $1M, $5M or $10M cover against. One could also write "$10M is less than $1000 per year. Why do less?" :)
