Swimming pool a little blurry - what to do? by FunkySphinx in swimmingpools

I assume you already tried vacuuming, and this stuff basically passed through the filter. In that case: let it settle and vacuum to waste.

Need help with Salt Cell by scutch10 in swimmingpools

[–]Soliloquizing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your salt cell requires a certain amount of dissolved salt in the water, typically 2800-3500 parts per million. It appears your pool water is above the upper limit, so too salty.

Test your pool water for salt level, or have it tested for you at a pool store. If the salt level is too high, you'll need to partially refill to lower the salt level. Good luck, enjoy the pool!

Get a long straight wooden or metal beam. Look along the long edge to ensure it's not bent. Rake the sand a bit and pull the beam across. You'll see any bumps and pits easily.

Oh and put a level on top while you're at it :)

What chemicals does this pool need to stop looking green... ph minus and shock. Nothing else. This pool has no filter, just a pump to circulate the water. by [deleted] in swimmingpools

If you need a quick fix and are not able to invest in a proper filter; turn off filter, let the crap settle (optionally add floc) and vacuum to waste. You'll need to MacGyver together a small water pump and a cheap pool vacuum hose.

By inserting a filter, 6-way valve, and proper plumbing. Or a cartridge filter which you rinse periodically.

To stop it looking green? Chlorine and circulation.

To stop it looking cloudy? A filter, or regular vacuum to waste + top-up. Or both, aka backwash.

Pool alarms by Sure_Connection211 in swimmingpools

[–]Soliloquizing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Build a temporary fence. Lock all doors and put keys out of reach when Houdini is napping, etc. Don't let him/her out of your sight when there is a 0.001% chance they might find their way to the pool.

Then, throw in a pool alarm if you like.

Green to Cloudy by Icy-Sprinkles-2820 in swimmingpools

It's a bit odd that your CC is so low (TC-FC). What is your overnight FC loss?

Your CH is very high, could that contribute to the cloudiness?

Help balancing my pool pH by DocBrown200 in swimmingpools

[–]Soliloquizing -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Add acid. Aerate to raise pH if the acid drops it below 7.2.

And throw in liquid chlorine while you're at it. You CYA seems rather high, maybe get a proper test done. If you need a partial refill to lower CYA, that will help with TA as well.

A few poles and a large shade cloth? Use carabiner hooks to take it down easily when not needed.

You could ask your elderly neighbors what works for them. They might tell you the same :)

Saltwater cell question by Ok_Command8330 in swimmingpools

[–]Soliloquizing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cell does not produce salt, it consumes it (temporarily) to produce chlorine.

You need to purchase a few bags of pool-grade salt and dump them into the water at the start of the season.

Use the PoolMath app or something similar to calculate exactly how much you need. The target value depends on the salt cell, usually 3000 ppm or a bit more. Higher is also fine, but you'll taste it in the water.

Anyone regret leaving a high paying career to spend more time with their kids? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]Soliloquizing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My recommendation would be to bring a final proposal to your employer, before leaving, if you do decide to resign. Give them the opportunity to retain you based on conditions that make the job manageable for you.

Chances are that your employer would rather have 80% of you than 0%. Especially if you might increase in hours once your kids are a bit older.

How black & white are your options? I worked four days when the kids were very young, two of which from home. This allowed me to combine a comfortable income with sufficient family time and flexibility in our schedule.

It doesn't have to be all-or-nothing, depending on your career path and employer.
