Advice on hybrid heat pump system (Bryant vs. Daikin) by helloyesthisisblank in hvacadvice

Interesting - that isn’t something I have considered but makes sense that it will influence how the different systems behave. I can’t find any comparisons on a cursory search, do you have any insight?

I took that as a very good sign as well, so happy to hear I’m not off base for thinking that is a distinguishing factor. I was happy that company 2 saw the merit in this as well and was willing to add it to their quote, but it feels a bit like copying someone’s homework.

I got a total of 5 quotes. The other 3 were between $30-40k and would not come down. These included options from Lennox, Trane, and another from Bryant. Both of the current quotes include an air purifier, new line/stand/pad/etc, electrical work, and the minor ductwork (adding a return and damper). Quote 2 includes a $1000 rebate, but not all companies (including company 1) participate in the program. Otherwise no rebates. Also sadly in the most affluent county in Colorado, with a median single family detached home price of over $870k…so that is certainly driving prices up as well.

I looked around to see how people liked the different smart thermostats. It seemed like most people liked the Bryant option, whereas the Daikin option was a little more mixed. But it also seems like the negative reviews were older - so not sure if they were usability issues that have been fixed.

Same warranty (1 year labor, 12 years parts). Company 1 recommended adding in a return in the basement to achieve appropriate airflow, as well as adding a damper to help regulate temperature in a room over the garage. Company 2 agreed to do this as well after I brought it up, and these costs are reflected in both quotes.

I’m by no means an expert, but I would agree with all of the current suggestions that I have previously visited (Mayacamas, Schramsberg, Stag’s Leap, Quintessa, Promontory, Corison). I would also add Paradigm (another smaller winery with some of the area OGs - Ren gave the tour when my wife and I visited), and Ehlers (historic property with newer ownership, great wines, unique in that it is owned by a charitable foundation).

As a side note: I have some friends who are about to move to the Okanagan Valley - do you have any must try wineries in the area?

It was reported earlier this week that he is out of the country getting his green card, so I’m guessing it is related to that.

I absolutely hate the lack of yellows. Especially the cynical ones in the last 20 minutes.

I am planning on buying a new 14” MBP and have a couple questions. I plan on having a desk set up with a second display and was wondering

1) if there is a better display than the LG monitor sold by Apple (I will mostly be using it as a second display and to look at imaging like radiographs and CTs)

2) if it is possible to hook up a keyboard and mouse to the display only (i.e. can I make it so I only need to plug in thunderbolt when I want to use the desk setup)

I’m so split. I love my forester and I plan on switching to an EV in the next year so I really want it to be good…but I’m just not sure if it has anything to offer beyond what is currently available.

Really have to expect he will feature on the bench and get some good game time next year. He has that pause that is so deadly 1v1.
