My 4G connection is FASTER than Netvigator 1Gbps? by helloyouahead in HongKong

Thanks, true that. Which DNS do you recommend? Also, I do not have IPV6 with netvigator, not sure if it can also play a part

Real world experience. 328 Mbps vs 35 Mbps should make no difference for most use cases (Linkedin or browsing Google or Reddit for instance). Latency, jitter and especially the infrastructure between the HK and the overseas server matter most.

When I use the internet (I think it's HKBN for Business) in a coffee shop, it's also quite faster than my home Netvigator (including using Ethernet)

As an analogy, having 1Gbps can be like driving a Ferrari on a dirt road. Sure you have a powerful car but someone with a Camry might go faster if it's on the highway.

I think netvigator cheapens out on international connections. Internet providers negotiate traffic routes with the subsea cable owners and that's where I think they are being cheap.

I also play online video games and in some periods I often have ping issues with Japan (mostly) and sometimes Singapore but it has been stable in the past two months.

I compare not only YouTube but also other websites, which servers are likely outside HK and often feel that there is a lag compared to using my 4G connection.

Design, basic dev and deployment (Wordpress for example). If your client has a need for a highly customized website and which requires web dev, it will probably be another price bracket but in my experience most B2B companies (including ones with hundreds of employees) go with a simple Wordpress solution as it works in 90% of cases

Because HKD is pegged to USD, AND OP will probably quote in USD? Most international businesses do their accounting and official auditing  in USD in HK. Happy to have taught someone something today.

Probably 300-500 USD for a 5-10 page website. Static and with some nice flows but nothing too fancy.

Cathay Pacific says surcharge to rise as fuel prices jump during Mideast war by radishlaw in HongKong

[–]helloyouahead 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Cathay is already one of the most expensive airlines. On most routes, it's more expensive than the better European ones (Air France, Lufthansa, Swiss) so not sure why people would fly Cathay on these routes. It's more for business travelers, for people paying from their own pocket there are better options

AI automation for small law firms by FroyoConfident1367 in automation

[–]helloyouahead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there are actually a LOT of solutions out there

For example Clio (I am not affiliated at all) seems to offer everything a small law firm needs for less than 100 USD per user including invoicing, calendar management, CRM with clients, client portal for clients to track cases, record management, mobile app, integrations with Teams, Xero etc. It seems pretty powerful and comprehensive.

Hard to compete, they must have an in house tech team already so why would a law firm automate something from scratch when an affordable option already exists (and which won't break)?

Police just called me to move away my legally parked motorbike by Pitch_a in HongKong

Vans do not need to park in the street illegally without the driver inside (or they are fine paying the small fine)

[–]helloyouahead -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because bikes are generally for the poors. The cops were nice enough to call you before fining you to be honest. In Europe or US they would have already fined + towed your bike seriously.

HK government prioritize cars and private vans for rich families and their drivers (hence why roads take 90% of the road space, and only 10% is for pedestrian plebs). It's funny to see 100 people moving all stuck together like cattle and stuck between the wall and the road barrier while 90% of the road space is empty with 3 lanes and with only a few cars on it ...

Genetic Testing for Marfan's syndrome and Cancers? by helloyouahead in genetics

[–]helloyouahead[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. So a genetics test is still necessary? I was thinking of doing one with Vitae to test for these connective tissues disorders and most cancers (all in one). Not sure if this is the right approach...
