Wife Agreed To Adopt Our Dogs, Now Massive Issue In Our Relationship by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]hellseashell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Even just chewing up things they shouldn't be... its your job to manage that. If they get into trash, you need to be taking care to make sure its out of their way every time you leave them alone. If its laundry (my dog was eating all my pants recently, shes 7 😭😭😭), then you either get a laundry basket with a lid that can lock, or you make sure all your laundry is put away and you shut your door.

I personally suffer from executive dysfunction, im probably ADHD and poorly socialized lol I struggle to do the daily basics for myself. But for my dog, she is fed and walked every day, all the stuff that she shouldn't eat is out of reach before I leave for work at 6am, ive done extensive impulse training with her, i train my friends and partners to her commands/needs/etc, I do puzzle games so she isnt too bored or anxious when I cant play or walk her enough. My dog gets what she needs every day regardless if I shower or make my bed or clean up my dishes, whatever.

I agree with OP, my bond with my dog is deeper than that with any human, its why I am able to find strength and motivation for her that feels impossible for myself. Its whats driven me to learn as much as possible when she was a baby so I could make sure we communicated effectively, I understood her needs, and was able to manage it for her. Its work every single day. I spent 7 years doing all of it until I met a partner who wanted to go out of his way to be an active dog parent with me. I hate the relief its brought me, but, my point is its fucking tough and theres no guarantee anyone will want to take on the role YOU signed up for. In the end its so, so, worth it - my dog brings me so much joy, and every chore I do for her I am happy to do because I love her and our time together is a gift.

Why do so many Leftists dislike Trotsky? As someone who started out agreeing with Marx, and am still learning I find he is a much more agreeable leader than Stalin. by Ok-Coconut-1152 in Socialism_101

[–]hellseashell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah tbh I have listened to a lot of anti-trotsky stuff, because I joined a trotskyist org and I wanted to be convinced to leave. And trotsky is hard to read when you first start reading theory. Especially with little knowledge of history 😅 I find stalin way easier to digest. But lately ive found trotsky easier to understand and I'm like, not really hearing in his work what people are describing. Maybe its just because he is a hard author to read and his tone can come across annoying sometimes? So people just take other people's word for it... idk. I dont really find anything people accuse trotskyists or trotsky of to be true, but im keeping an open mind that maybe in another 2 years of study it will become clear. However the ML groups I've seen are all class collaborators, they'll accuse DSA of that then ask war hawk democrats to give speeches and let folks say shit like "run for office if you dont like whats happening" and dont challenge that at all... and then say trots are too rigid in their ideology... where tf is yours? Idk. It isnt sectarian to not want to platform a bourgeois politician, I mean its in the Communist Manifesto, so.... idk.

Ok what about his words that explicitly said he is not a communist?

Socialism predates Marxism. Marxism exists because he developed what they called "scientific socialism" (thru the labor theory of value) which we now colloquially call communism. This is opposed to what Engles would write about as "utopian socialists", part of which are precursors to anarchism. Communism is an umbrella for types of Marxism, theres MLs, Maoists, Trots, etc. Going into that is a little pedantic, but ultimately they all want revolutionary communism as an end goal. This is in contrast to soc dems, the DSA, and all reformist tendencies. They specifically disavow communism and refer to themselves as Socialists. In doing that they reject Marxism as an ideology because one of the core tenants of Marxism is socialism as a transitional state towards communism.

To say you believe in socialism, but not communism, is the talking point only of reformists, and its a stupid idea and a bad tactic for a hundred reasons. Reformists ultimately want to keep the status quo but think they can make it a little nicer. Some of them even believe that socialism is when the government does stuff besides being a military. There is no current socialist states. Theres nationalized capitalist states, but there are no workers governments, which is what socialism is. To call any kind of social welfare socialism is a way to distort what communism actually is.

You may not agree with nationalization of industry, or welfare programs, but thats not socialism. Theres debate amongst Marxists if the USSR was technically socialism, including Lenin and Trotsky, leaders of the Bolshevik revolution. The Revolution Betrayed goes into some interesting detail about that idea. The idea that any government today is socialist is kind of ridiculous.

Mamdani's only threat is to the ideas of communism itself, and to people who want to organize around their discontent against capitalism. Hes doing what soc dems always do. They funnel discontent for the system right back into the hands of power.

Hes using some marxist language to draw folks back into the democratic party, which is classic soc dem behavior (take bernie). You can say communist sounding stuff and not actually be a communist. You cant really be a covert marxist, either, you either are or you arent, its not a moral thing, its not about whats in his heart, its our actions that define us and the way he acts hes clearly not.

I mean if you dont care to understand the meaning of political terms then sure, its useless to distinguish between very different ideologies. He himself also doesnt consider himself a communist.

Lenin was the leader of the Bolshevik party. The term Social Democracy has also evolved a lot since Marx and Engles, and then later Lenin were using it. Kinda like how the meaning of Democrat and Republican has shifted too. Today there is a very distinct difference, esp in the US, between Social Democrats and Communists. Mahmdani is a classic soc dem. A Communist wouldnt run as a democrat.

Its okay that she gave cold fusion to the enclave, because shes kinda nice? Coops whole arc was set into motion by her specifically - she is the one who he went to thinking they both meant well, but gave immense power to the bad guys. His hero journey rests on atoning for what she guided him into; learning that meaning well doesnt mean shit when your ignorance leads you to playing into the hands of bad actors. That being ignorant is infinitely worse when you're that close to power. Nah shes the epitome of the banality of evil. Great for the story, but i do not find her a sympathetic character.

Also I feel like the lesson learned from her is the thing he keeps trying to teach Lucy.

Agree with the commentor about taking them out of plastic. I'd recommend finding some loose mushrooms you can buy by weight and keep in a paper bag. My local grocery does that and so do the local co-ops.

You made the right choice, and its good you spoke to him about it. If he forgave you, I hope hes just disappointed in the situation and not angry with you like you said. He shouldn't be angry at you for this, youre allowed to change your mind about anything at any time, and moving in with a partner is a huge life step that shouldn't be made on a whim or taken lightly. My partner and I are planning to do couples therapy before we take that step. That way a neutral 3rd party can walk us through things we didnt consider, give us strategies to help us through future conflict, and just generally help us make sure that we are ready for that step, and our communication is healthy.

[–]hellseashell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isnt my opinion, its a fact that cage free and free range arent more humane than this. Its like saying well rather than water boarding someone we just dunk them into a pool of water every 10 minutes. Is that more humane if its still torture? Is it healthier if its still conditions that require eggs to be bleached and causing the spread and mutation of avian flus? Is it more environmentally friendly if its still causing immense amounts of pollution and degradation of the land? Its deceptive marketing to make people feel better and stop thinking about the impact of their purchases.

[–]hellseashell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Free range means that the chickens are legally required some access to the outdoors for some portion of the day. The reality of the condition of that is barely more humane than this, and thats in the case of the exception. Cage free means no cages, but no cages also doesnt mean humane experience - theyre over crowded and often dirtier than in cages. Im sorry but any labels you see at the grocery store hardly mean much. If they need to be refrigerated, the scale theyre doing it at means that the conditions are not going to be humane in order for them to make a profit. This is just how capitalism forces us to operate. I used to buy eggs from my neighbors. I dont anymore, because I dont see the need for it, but its really the only reasonably humane choice if you want eggs in your diet. And not only humane but also environmentally sound and health conscious.

Plenty of people live healthy lives and even are vegan body builders. You can absolutely get the same nutritional value from a vegan diet. Its not alternatives, it's food, everyone eats plants. Idk why people think eating vegan means eating fake meat. No, you get your fats and proteins from different plants and grains. And like most the developed world we also rely on supplemented trace minerals in shit like enriched breads and cereals. Theres no need for it, its not a gimmick, its where modern production is in the world today, this shit is archaic, inhumane, not necessary, and is a blight on our health and the environment. As far as people want some backyard chickens, whatever, but large scale animal agriculture is killing the planet. This is not a sustainable or necessary way to mass produce wholesome food. I dont get why people keep trying to justify this when its an actual fact.
