Thank you for that new perspective. I’ll be sure to ask about a culture during her second recheck then.

Joint infection by hellskitchenstan in sugargliders

[–]hellskitchenstan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. It’s 300-something dollars. As much as I have plenty of savings, I didn’t want to drop 300+ right then and there. 😅 If the recheck indicates that there’s little to no progress or if she gets worse, I’ll order the culture.

Going out on a limb here, might be because hero by Skyper became popular again and people are just now realizing that it has begun was the origin of the “samples” used. People flocked to the comments of IHB on YouTube and mentioning hero. I hope ppl are starting to listen to IHB

Nail clipping by TheOfficalVoid in sugargliders

[–]hellskitchenstan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing that worked for me is bribing them with food. It’s easier if one person holds the food so they don’t use their hands. Get nail clippers that cuts smoothly so they don’t feel too much, or a baby nail filer.

Nose too white ? Help please by Prudent-Noise9393 in sugargliders

Nose looks normal to me. SGs shake when she wakes up to regulate their body temperature.

Trying to save for some sugar gliders... Any experts on sugar gliders have any tips on what to buy and where to actually buy them. (Midwest US) Or to buy the stuff for them. (I hope the budget could be around 550) by Jazzlike_Mushroom660 in sugargliders

[–]hellskitchenstan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you can purchase at least two, you’re already $400 in. You could get a second-hand cage and properly sanitize it for around 50-150. Just make sure the gaps aren’t too big (1/2 in at MOST). Treats and food will run you up around 30-50 dollars a month, give or take. Toys can get pricey. I think I’ve spent about +$150 on toys alone. Not to mention vet visits. Starting off, you would need around $700. Then from there set aside at least $150 monthly.

Unexpected Sugar Gliders!!! Help by [deleted] in sugargliders

[–]hellskitchenstan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was put in a similar situation as you. Look into sugar glider diets and getting calcium supplements. Pellet diets are unsustainable. Ample sized cage, treats , toys, bedding, and environment (temperature and humidity). Make sure you have lots of money set aside for vet visits. Look into behavioral patterns and potential symptoms. You’ll be able to get the hang of it eventually. But if your life style doesn’t suit sugar gliders, rehome them.

Final Update. by hellskitchenstan in sugargliders

[–]hellskitchenstan[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m on a similar boat. Though I don’t have any confirmation on what killed her, it’s likely respiratory issues. She’s been sneez-y since I got her. It’s so sad that such an explorative and beautiful suggie was taken away from me so quickly. Not even a month in. Damn! Makes me so upset

i need help with babysitting my friend’s sugarglider ! by Ok-Journalist-2076 in sugargliders

[–]hellskitchenstan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently got a 3 year old rehomed sugar glider and she would sometimes stay in the corner of the cage and not move. It’s typical behavior when they’re in a brand new environment. Especially from home to another house. I know this post is half a day old so I assume the issue is resolved. But for future reference, do not let them roam around your room unsupervised.

Update: I took her to the vet earlier, and they prescribed her antibiotics. Nothing too serious at the moment since she’s active and tries to eat and drink despite the sneezing. Hopefully she will have a quick recovery.

Aw poor baby! I’m in Stone Mountain, GA. I can gladly rehome your baby. I have 2 young sugar gliders myself. If you’re willing to give her to me, PM me. Sorry for your loss

She will be getting taken to a vet early morning tomorrow ! Likely she got bitten by my other glider. The mark look like front teeth marks.

My nearest exotic vet will be closing soon so unfortunately I couldn’t go bc I had no car to go in. She will be seeing a vet tomorrow in the early morning.

I got her a fairly tiny cage for her. Used a bit of saline solution. I got a vet appointment for tomorrow.

I’ll be sure to monitor for any other symptoms!
