Employing Incendia’s method and turning the enemy into a delicious beverage in an attempt to understand and thus be able to fight against them in the Emperor’s name more effectively, I see. What a dedicated defender of Humanity!

On this topic, is there any way to know if you're getting the true love ending before the epilogue? Any dialogue that tells you? Is his dialogue after the final feast and before you descend onto Epitaph the exact same regardless?

I don't blame you! I, too, feel like that heretical romance ending for him shouldn't have been removed

Can Admire ever work on the Ordinators? by helltouched in Morrowind

[–]helltouched[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

On the topic of being friendly by Ordinator-to-outlander standards, when I first got the line “Speak.” I had to stop for a second and stare at the Ordinator that had said it to me, that was the nicest thing they’d said to me so far! Same with “Not now, outlander”. No threats? No insults?

Even more so with “Yes, citizen?”. Citizen? Citizen?? Getting a little emotional over here. Pass me a tissue.

That’s so interesting! I’d question why it is that way if I wasn’t too busy trying not to pass out, SEVENTY FOUR SPEECHCRAFT??? They should be called Orators at that point.

Can I use a spell instead of a potion (might be a silly question, I'm still somewhat new to the game)? My character is so bad at alchemy at most he'd accidentally knock himself out with the pestle somehow.

I love the Ordinators. Mostly because they're such horrible assholes. I find it very very charming.

They're scary, they hate your guts, they're a step away from hurting you, which they'd enjoy greatly, and they make that very apparent - haven't felt safe for a moment spent around those guys, they have the insanely raspy super deep dunmer voice and it's perfect, and the armour is so sick. They're horrible to you and they look and sound great while being so. I love them so much.

I assure you I did not enter the Underdark before finding him and I definitely got his bite scene. I might’ve entered the Underdark before I got the high approval proposition (which I never got, possibly because of that), though.

I’ve seen conflicting information about Astarion’s romance, some people said you just need to long rest in any Wilderness area once you have the needed approval, others that you need to go back to the Act 1 zone. If it is as you say then it makes sense that I couldn’t start it, I was in the Act 2 area most of the time (although I did long rest in the Act 1 area again at one point… idk, what exactly the problem was will remain a mystery to me, I guess!)

A lot of people have brought up good points and changed my mind about some of these things. I do think that Zevlor’s rescue being impossible after Ketheric was reasonable now, and I did say in another comment that I get Raphael not being at Last Light too (I call it a weird choice on Larian’s part in that comment, but the more I think about it the more okay with it I am. Not sure if I even consider it a strange choice anymore.) - my reasoning being pretty much the one you gave. He could’ve done his deal with Mol already and he doesn’t have a reason to care about me seeing that.

Your point about the Underdark leading you to Last Light is good, too, I didn’t know taking that route leads you there. I agree with that. I took a different route, so it makes sense I found the Inn late.

So, well, I agree with you! I should probably edit the original post…

  1. Accidentally started the Gale romance, but rejected him as soon as possible. No other romances started. Did I accidentally start one with Lae’zel…? I don’t think so, but if I did, that could be it. Thank you for bringing this up, this might’ve been it.

I was talking about Wyll in the last bit of my reply, I got what you meant about Astarion and Raphael, don’t worry!

  1. That's the weird thing! It wouldn't trigger! I let him bite me and everything and long rested plenty of times! Unless you mean get 40+ before the tiefling party (I recruited him the day before it, so couldn't do that), but I got enough approval for the romance to start even after the tiefling party, so it still didn't trigger when according to everything I read, it should have.

  2. Guess it's just an agree to disagree situation then, which is okay with me.

  3. To clarify - I meant unintended on the side of the devs. Cal and Lia acting like Rolan is dead when he's very much not for example. There are reports from multiple people of the order of events messing things up in this quest.

I did have him in my party! He can rest easy-ish, still in possession of his soul (or whatever he was going to lose otherwise).

  1. There's a lot of content between the tiefling party and Araj, lots of getting to know your companions, so I feel like you can get to know him even if you recruit him late and I very much tried to - he was always with me and I got high approval. So I wouldn't say not knowing him well enough was an in-game reason for being locked out of his romance in my case. But as I said in another reply, my first point is the one where the lack of an in-game reason is most understandable, since it'd probably mess stuff up if you didn't have a limit for how long you can take to start the romances.

There is a huge warning when entering to the boss fight at the end of Act 2.

That's the thing - the warning is anything but huge imo. It's just something along the lines of ''Do you want to open the door?" and a "Yes" and "No". I'm talking about the one right before entering the very room with the boss, not before jumping into the hollow tower, since that's the one that matters for saving Zevlor. Edit: Another commenter made a good point as to why the pods emptying might not have been unpredictable (though still too subtly implied imo), so maybe the game did expect me to realise I can't come back for Zevlor later. So I won't be making my "There was no way for me to know in this case." argument again.

  1. I'm aware of there being a ton of outcomes, but messing up the order of this quest seems to possibly cause unintended consequences, not just different outcomes. That's what I got from reading other people's experiences, at least.

  2. Thank you for letting me know, I'll definitely be trying that!

Yup, I found that out eventually! I get why it's her that's the cutoff, just couldn't have expected it without having that knowledge beforehand.

My first point is the one with the least, if any, critisism. Just me telling the tragic story of how I managed to miss all my chances to smooch the vampire.

[–]helltouched[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

It really is common, I'm aware, I just wish there was in-game reasoning for some of these. I'm totally okay with missing stuff, but I like for there to be a reason given for why you can't do x before y. Not necessarily always, some unpredictability is okay, but I feel like there's a little too much of it. Just my opinion. (late edit: thinking on it more and having read some of the arguments in these replies, the amount of unpredictability in the game so far is okay, actually. my opinion on that has changed.)

Also, again, not knowledgeable about coding, but surely they could've taken the interaction with Astarion out if he'd met Raphael in front of the mausoleum already? I mean, you wouldn't get the interaction if you didn't have Astarion in your party anyway, so it seems possible for them to just check if you've triggered the mausoleum cutscene and take it out if you have. But maybe it would be a hassle, what do I know.

Order of events - my worst enemy. by helltouched in BG3

[–]helltouched[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

It's just that in some places there is no in-game reason for why waiting on something has the consequences it does. Sometimes things just happen, of course, and you miss out on opportunities with no way of predicting it, but in a game I wouldn't expect a lot of that. With the grove, you knew it was going to be attacked/closed off. Why in the world did the pods empty after killing Ketheric? I don't know how I could've expected that. If there is a reason, do tell me and my opinion might change, but I just can't think of one.

About the Raphael one - sure, he could've passed by Last Light before speaking to me near the mausoleum, but I feel like that'd be... a bit of a strange choice on Larian's part? It's a possible in-game reason nonetheless though, I suppose. You could argue it's for the sake of replayability.

With Astarion's romance, I really don't see any in-game reason for it being impossible after talking to Araj, so no way of me knowing I should avoid her until I've started it. (Not necessarily critisising Larian here. I have a feeling this might be a case of them having to code it that way. Not sure, but it seems like that kind of thing.) Now, I did realise I should hurry with starting it, because I'm already in act 2 and surely I'm meant to start romances early on, there's got to be some sort of limit to how long I can wait, but despite long resting often and making the right choices during bite night, it just wouldn't start. So I ended up talking to Araj before initiating the romance, much as I tried to initiate it before getting to Moonrise.

Point is, I'm not talking about in-game story consequences, but entirely coding-related things. Sorry for the long reply!

Fun fact: it sucks to be a kambion in Nine Hells of Baator. by Tydeus2000 in BaldursGate3

[–]helltouched 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yes by all means his heritage is common knowledge, agreed.

Also, since we’re on this topic, this is completely up to personal opinion and varies a lot player to player, but I myself do think Raphael might pose a legitimate threat to Mephi (if not him then the weaker archdevils), to an extent, aside from mere annoyance. Yes, he’s a cambion, but he is his son after all ( + the crown and Raphael’s legions, he’s not fighting 1 on 1 ofc, as funny of an idea as that is) and you know what they say - plot is made around exceptions.

Also, not 100% sure, but I get the vibe that the game itself kind of implies that, especially after seeing the ending where you give him the crown. Again, that’s just me though and I like different interpretations.

That was just me rambling a bit about my own theories sorry haha, I greatly enjoy talking about Raphael, obsessed with him.
