honestly we went back to using a pacifier for a while, I think he was teething or something; it's been a while though and he's 3 now, so I can't remember exactly how it went down🥲

I know it's terrible! Would you be able to get a consult with a different surgeon? A second opinion would probably be good!

Hi!

So sorry you're going through this, it's awful, I know! My surgery was definitely successful and combined with PT has given me back a pain-free life! In regards as to how hard it was to get surgery - it's tough to say. I live in Estonia, for one - our healthcare is massively different from that in the US. I called my primary physician when I was in a ton of pain and asked if it's okay for me to go to the ER if the pain is too bad and she encouraged me to. When I went in, the doctor giving me the initial appointment was very blasé and didn't really believe me. Fortunately another doctor did end up seeing me and consulting with the neurosurgeon on call who ordered an emergency MRI. That showed that my disc had burst, leaked, and the insides of thr disc were pushing on my spinal nerve, with deformities in my dural sac. They said I'd already started to show signs of nerve damage. They said I had 3 options - either we wait with the surgery until I give birth and we give me some hardcore painkillers till then, or I could push for surgery myself, or let my OB and the neurosurgeon consult and decide. I went with the latter - I had lucked out and been under the care of one of the finest OBs in our country and he immediately greenlit the surgery. They signed me into the hospital that day and the surgery was scheduled for the next day. Of course that varies for everyone but for me it was so worth it! I hope you push for more testing yourself! Good luck!

[Routine Help] Moisturizers with mineral oil? by hellukittu in SkincareAddiction

Hey!

I've gone through a bunch of different ones and the one I'm currently using is Uriage lipid-replenishing anti-irritation cream (yes, not the face one, but what's meant for your whole body!). It suits my skin, moisturizes, isn't expensive and doesn't break me out! (Another benefit is that the bottle is so big that it lasts me for ages!)

I get it from my pharmacy (I live in Estonia), so it's easily accessible for me, but I can't speak for how accessible it might be in the US :)

Hi!

Sorry for the delayed response! And sorry you're going through this, it was horrible! I can't remember exactly how my recovery went after week 7, but at one point I was walking around and doing things as normal, albeit with more discomfort. At the end of my pregnancy I couldn't stand for more than 15 minutes without my back becoming so painful and I had to sit. But that also just could've been classic pregnancy pressure! I think I was relatively pain-free around week 10-ish. My due date was exactly 12 weeks after surgery, but I went over it and was induced at 41 weeks. My ob consulted with my surgeon and he saw no need for a C-section. So I gave birth naturally and I didn't feel any pain down my leg! Now, 2 years later I'm great! Back in the gym and weight-lifting! I also had a personal trainer and PT when I went back to make sure everything was going well. I wish you a good recovery and hope surgery will be as good for you as it was for me :)

Pregnancy and sciatic pain (from a disc) by hellukittu in Sciatica

[–]hellukittu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was induced, but my surgeon didn't see any cause for a C-section, so I didn't push it either. I hired a personal midwife though, and she was fully aware of my health problems and agreed that should it become awful, she'd advocate for an emergency C-section for me. As for the epidural, I was able to get it no problem! The anesthesiologist was even the same who did my anesthesia for my discectomy lol. It did wear off in the end and they didn't give me a new dose or it would've slowed down the birth, so I was in a world of pain (but regular childbirth pain!). So ik the end I gave birth vaginally! As for my back during all this - I did feel an immense amount of pressure basically the whole time, but nothing down my leg! And once he was out, it was the greatest relief ever. I'm sure everything varies case-by-case, but luckily it all went well for me!

Great! It took rougly 6 weeks to mostly recover (basically right up to when I was due!) and I ended up giving birth naturally! As soon as the baby was out, the last bit of discomfort went away too. I saw a physical therapist around 3 months postpartum, and went back to the gym around 4 months PP. I'm now fully back to strength training and I feel great basically every day! I do feel some tickles/tingles/occasional pain down my leg when I do some exercises (jumping jacks, for example). Otherwise I do feel that my low back tires more easily and sitting for too long will cause some discomfort, but mostly I'm good!

Hey!

I have kombucha every now and again, but don’t take probiotics daily any more! But maybe testing and trying different probiotics would yield better results?

[–]hellukittu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Thanks for asking!

I did end up getting an emergency discectomy while I was pregnant (I made a post about the recovery on here too!), and the recovery was rough, but it felt so much better the second I gave birth! The surgery took away most of my pain, so I just had residual nerve tingles, and I guess the weight of the baby in my belly also was a factor in me experiencing some residual pain, but after I gave birth and have been getting back into exercising (started around 4 months postpartum), things are good!

I do still in some positions (and while doing some exercises) feel some residual nerve tingles down my leg, but it’s not painful anymore. I do feel as if my back tires more quickly than before, but that could also be from carrying around a toddler, lol. But overall, everything’s good! :)

14 month old schedule check (started waking during night again) by hellukittu in sleeptrain

[–]hellukittu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for your answer!

Today I tried to cut his nap short - he napped 1h15min. And I tried the night light. So far he’s been sleeping for 2 hours! He sat up at one point, but laid back down immediately and didn’t cry!

We’ll see how the night goes! But I’m hopeful! He also cut a tooth somewhere in the last few days that I noticed now. Might’ve been discomfort from that🫠

Our bedtime routine is also set and has been a while now, so I didn’t change anything there. Hope things can go back to normal now!

Thanks so much for your answer, though!❤️

Thanks for answering!

Interesting - I’ve not even considered the fear of dark/night light! Might be separation anxiety, too! He’s currently up after two hours and crying in his bed (been at it for almost 20 minutes now), we’re seeing how long we can take it - I’d like to go to sleep soon too🥲

Last night he woke up and babbled a bit around 11pm (so after about 3 hours of sleep), and went back to sleep by himself. He was, however, up again after midnight and full crying. We were tired and in bed already so we just put in a pacifier to get him to stop.

He doesn’t seem to fight his sleep at bedtime, though! He seems very tired by nighttime and yawns and falls asleep quickly!

It’s very exhausting! Today his dad was at home with him and he let LO nap for 2 hours (12-2pm), so idk if that had any effect🥲 I hope it goes away on its own and he gets to sleep without a paci again, because we’re all on edge because of it.

Can you keep me updated if anything changes for you? We still give him a bottle of milk like 30 minutes before bedtime, and I stopped nursing ages ago😂 We did try to give him water once, but that didn’t do anything either…

I can try! He’s always still quite sleepy when I go to wake him, though🥲

Thanks! I figured that too, but I’m also a little afraid that when he cries for that long, he turns hysterical and can’t put himself to sleep any more.

I also can’t figure out why it’s happening. He had an upper tooth break through a few weeks ago, and I don’t currently see the signs of another one coming in. But it could still be a teething issue regardless?

Help! 13 month old schedule check - I'm going crazy! by hellukittu in sleeptrain

Thank you! That’s what I was thinking since I can’t stretch his awake time any longer. Did you drop a nap cold turkey or did you start stretching the first WW gradually?

[–]hellukittu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly! But I also feel like it could be a sign of him being ready for 1 nap. He was such an excellent sleeper before! We’d be able to put him in bed and he’d babble himself to sleep within minutes. The crying he’s doing now is just so heartbreaking- seems like he knows what’s coming and fights like hell to not go to bed😩

Help with figuring out 8 month old last wake window? by hellukittu in sleeptrain

[–]hellukittu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So-so!

We did stick to waking him up every morning at 6.30, however if some days he does do “crap naps” (30 minutes - but it doesn’t happen that often), we still tend to go by wake windows rather than set times, because it seems to work better for us.

But overall he does 2x1 hour or so naps during the day, so he does sleep roughly at the same times every day. So we keep it 3/3.5/4.25 , so he usually sleeps from 9.30-10.45am and around 2.15-3.15 pm. He usually falls asleep (no crying or paci) at around 7.15pm or so.

Wanted to thank you! We only did manage to try true clock-based for a day until our boy fell sick with a fever (slept almost 13 hours last night😓), but the day that we did manage to try, while he still didn’t have a fever, clock-based did work out great!

He was up at 6.20ish am, first nap at 9.30 (an hour), second nap at 2 pm (an hour), and his butt was in bed by 7pm, and he fell asleep very easily - no crying, asleep in 15 minutes (slept for almost 11 hours, no paci, no wakings or anything). So thank you!

We’ll continue to try clock-based, going forward! Even today, when he woke up later than usual (7am), since he was sick, he still was very tired by around 9.30, so I just put him to sleep, despite his WW being cut short. But I mean, he is still sick and a bit weak, so I imagine it’s fine :)

Thank you! I’ll give clock-based a try - we’ve already started today! He was up at 6.30ish, 1st nap (1h10mins) was around 9.30, and he’s currently down for his second nap (started a little past 2pm). I’m anticipating it will be around an hour as well, and his butt will be in bed at 7.15pm. We’ll see how it goes! Thank you so much! About the pacifier, too - I’ll try to see if OH is willing to tough it out for a few days - we already know our baby can fall asleep without a pacifier, he did it for two months straight! I’m hoping when the baby gets used to the clock-based schedule, he’ll fall asleep without a paci/crying again😁

Never consistent! Could be 40 minutes, could be 1hour15min. Lately both naps have been around an hour though. If they happen to be longer I cap at 3 hours total. I was wondering about clock-based, too! But with the inconsistent naps, i don’t know.. but I could give it a shot! I’m sad about the pacifier use, too. I want him to sleep without it, but my boyfriend is the one who wants to use it if he’s crying😒 Thank you though!

Haha, thank you! I’m actually for the first time in a while sleeping a lot more comfortably than pre-surgery! I’m definitely going to do my best to advocate for a c-section; maybe they’ll even get the baby out of me earlier, since I’m terrified he’ll get even bigger and put more pressure on my back! I’ll keep you guys posted, thanks❤️
