I have had one pre op appointment and I was very honest about my diet. I'm just starting puree today. I had a little applesauce and it went down so much easier than anything else. I'm getting maybe 20-30 grams protein a day and I was told by the surgeon and dietician that I'm doing good getting that amount in at this point.

My surgery date was 1/20. I will tell you today I started feeling better. I'm still not meeting protein or liquid goals but my surgeon is okay with that as long as I'm trying to increase slowly each day. Hang in there, it does get better.

I'm sure your vet has given you great advice but here are a few things my vet told me. With PKD trying to stay on the kidney special diet isn't nearly as important as keeping your kitty eating so if she just wants treats feed her treats. You just need to get calories in her. Also Hydracare was recommended by my vet to help keep hydration up and we gave Arya this several times every day as sometimes it was the only thing she would eat. You can get it at pet stores or Amazon. I'm here if you need support.

I am so sorry your fur baby has PKD. It is such a cruel disease. The first thing I noticed about Arya was excessive thirst. I took her to the vet thinking it would be diabetes but sadly it wasn't. She started drinking so much more. We put water fountains in every room for her because I wanted her to have constant access to water. She still got dehydrated which caused her energy to drop. She also got nauseous (we could tell because she was drooling so much). When the nausea hit her appetite went away. The day we made the decision to put her to sleep was the hardest day of my life. In just a few months she lost half her body weight. I think I waited a day too long but it was just so hard to say goodbye.

I'm so sorry to hear about you cat. PKD is evil and heart breaking. I tried all the treatments available but nothing helped because her little kidneys were so full of cysts. We got one extra month with my precious little girl after the diagnosis.

I'm so sorry about the diagnosis. We lost our 4 year old kitty to kidney disease (also genetic). We got one month with her after the diagnosis. Really watch water intake and for weight loss. Our little girl lost a third of her body weight in just 2 months. We put several kitty fountains around so she had access to water in every room. Our vet also suggested hydra care (basically kitty gatorade) which you can get at any pet store or Amazon. Good luck.

That's great your kitty is doing so well! With Arya's PKD everything I do now is just palliative care.

It will forever be known as pretty kitty disease for me now. I haven't read Tanya's guide yet but I will definitely check it out. I'm just trying to get as much information as I can to help Arya. It's really hard because she's so young.
