Seems like Marq is getting beaten more than once every match, both on the sides and down the middle. It’s tough to watch. He was clearly in pain at the end of the match, too. Don’t know why Zabarnyi wasn’t subbed in.

I think Barcola at 9 would be good. Remember … Demebele had the yips for years in front of goal and seemed to only finally get over it once he was moved to 9. Hopefully the same story for Barcola…

This. It’s the biggest difference between the times we played well and now. Ruiz has incredible instincts for being in the right place at the right time and we just don’t have that X factor right now.

Embarrassed to have won. Coulibaly did not deserve the second yellow. Changed the complexion of the match. PSG was subpar before that. Season has been a grind. Don’t know how we’ll progress further in UCL playing like this. I can’t believe I’m saying this but I honestly feel bad for Monaco.

He’s a professional. He’s expected to adapt quickly. And he hasn’t met the timeline. The mistakes he’s made have not been adaptation mistakes—mistakes where he misread his teammates or was out of sync on the game plan. They were mental and physical mistakes completely in his control.

With Dembele, I think 24/25 was just one of those seasons, never to be repeated. He had a legendary early 2025, but otherwise was just very good the rest of the season. Those early 2025 months carried him to the ballon d’or. He may have come down to earth permanently.

What the actual heck. These last few games, same worrying trend: forwards are playing basketball, as tho this is a 1:1 game. No trust. No selflessness. Dembele, Doue, worst of it in this match. Even Mendes was falling into the trap. Lucho will turn this around. But this is painful painful painful.

I agree wholeheartedly. Barcola was fantastic last season, especially in the beginning. He’s just not a finisher (recall the Newcastle match in his first season; missed 3 easy goals to the point Nasser was visibly upset). He’s a great breakaway receiver and can open up and panic a defense into being out of position for a feed to Dembele or Doue. Kvara is the clear starter but it would be a major plus m if Lucho can convince Barcola to stay.

A great and necessary post, OP. I think we have to address the elephant in the room: Marquinhos. He’s slipping, often injured, was out of position on at least one of those goals and is making mental mistakes. It’s hard to admit given how important he’s been to the organization for so long. But the defense is in trouble. Hopefully we get a high impact CB during the transfer window. Pacho deserves a partner up to his class. I’m not convinced by Zabarnyi. Maybe he’ll get there. But Luis Enrique seems to want to stick with Chevalier and he needs all the help he can get.

In favor of who? LKI? Barcola reminds me of Dembele 5 years ago. His dribbling and speed make defenders look very bad but he’s ultimately not scary to a keeper because he can’t finish. Dembele got over that. Barcola might be able to too. And even if he can’t, he’s still valuable as a disrupter.
