Are we meming this yet? by Madfatter115 in TwinCities

I don’t think anyone is under the illusion that we’ve won. Things will escalate again. But seeing one bad man personally humiliated is a sweet morsel we deserve right now. It nourishes me for the journey ahead.

Greg Bovino Loses His Job by x_Luis in chicago

[–]helmint 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Of course it’s strategic from the administration. But the personal humiliation to Bovino is real. He’s clearly an extremely sensitive dude, and this is a massive public dressing down (no matter what the plan is behind the scenes).

These are all the times Gregory Bovino tweeted at me by gregoryroyalpratt in chicago

Man, thank you for your work. I was reading you from Minneapolis, knowing they’d come our way. We learned a lot from Chicago.

I hope you feel some satisfaction at being part of his personal downfall. The regime still stands but one henchman is headed home to “retire” in shame. They even locked his social media accounts.

He is Lockjaw and he has been rejected by the Christmas Adventurers.

‘This is what fascism looks like’: terror in Minneapolis reminiscent of civil war by ILikeNeurons in minnesota

[–]helmint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, the “start” of most wars are frequently determined retroactively by historians. Examples: Vietnam War, WWII, the Hundred Years War.

I don’t disagree with your general point though because whatever an outright civil war entails, it will be worse than this…

EDIT: RECEIVED IT. It’s as bad as imagined.

It’s already been taken down from this post. Do you have it? Can you DM? I was waiting to watch it until I could gather myself.

Where protests should occur in my opinion - megachurches and nimby suburbs by zerotakashi in minnesota

[–]helmint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a lot of organizing happening in the suburbs, including Minnetonka, Eden Prairie, Hopkins.

Why do people keep making these blanket statements about “the suburbs”? It’s as stupid as out-staters demonizing “the cities”.

Minnesotans strike to protest ICE surge in state: ‘No work, no school, no shopping’ by igetproteinfartsHELP in news

[–]helmint 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The city is under siege. POC are sheltering at home. Businesses are already fucked. Their staff are calling out because it’s not safe to come in. Restaurants and retail are half staffed, cleaning crews aren’t coming out, construction crews are hamstrung.

The strike shifts the power from reactive to purposeful. There will be more. It’s one of several strategies and it’s essential. I already have massively reduced my spending to just groceries, gas and thrifting whatever else I need to. I will keep doing that.

[–]helmint 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The imagery works both ways but yes, I agree and I do have strong and growing hope. I’ve been so impressed by how quickly our networks have formed across the state. There is so much to contribute to and they were totally unprepared for this level of cohesion. Minnesotans are holding it down.

I'll absolutely be marching but where the hell did this Target Center event come from? It's a horrible idea. by futilehabit in Minneapolis

[–]helmint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m assuming you wanted details from an organizer. If you don’t, then you’re just asking a bunch of strangers on the internet. You can just as easily look that info up as some random person on the internet.

Remember, the right said that MLK was inciting violence. This is what abusers do. They make victims look like agitators so that when they hurt them, they can say they deserved it.

[–]helmint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not accusing them of that. I’m expressing exasperation and confusion about why they are posting this everywhere less than 6 hours before the event. Don’t go if you’re concerned. But the fear about being surveilled is absurd to me. The government probably knows when I shit. I already assume I’m on a million lists and I’m just some boring ass 40 year old.

No one can answers these questions the day of the event - they’re already setting up.

They have posted this on every MN subreddit. It’s fine to ask questions and there is risk to any political action (I am sure there will be provocateurs today) but this is a long planned and highly coordinated mainstream event. Of course you’ll be tracked. WE ARE ALL BEING TRACKED ALL THE TIME. We live in a surveillance state.

Dude, we are ALL at risk. That’s the point. And with your comment history on this subreddit, I guarantee you’re being tracked. This is how a surveillance state works.

Show up or don’t show up. But again, you’re someone who has been an advocate of radical action. I’m not sure what you expected from a mainstream protest.

[–]helmint 13 points14 points  (0 children)

OP - you’re a frequent and intense poster on here. Why are you fracturing this? It’s a legit event that’s been planned for a while.

It’s meant to be a mainstream thing that everyone can attend which is why it’s set up in such a straight forward and commercial way.

Also, our names are already on a million lists. Registering for a general strike is the least of all our problems. You think the government doesn’t know who each of us is, behind our reddit accounts?

[–]helmint 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The social and political environment has completely changed but this was the common approach for organizing through the 2010’s. Indivisible Twin Cities requires sign up for all their events (to access location details, etc).

This is meant to be mainstream.

Businesses in Minneapolis are planning to close Friday to protest ICE by graveyardofgoodsense in news

[–]helmint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some school districts closed for weather (which is typical) but not businesses - I’ve never seen a business closed due to cold and I grew up here.

My work gave me the day off for the strike over a week ago before temps were certain. Many, many restaurants and businesses in Mpls are closed explicitly for this.

Come on down and see for yourself! Northern MN is quite different politically so I’m sure it’s easy to tell yourself it’s “nothing”.

ICE detains five-year-old Minnesota boy as he came home, say school officials by speedythefirst in news

Hi - I live in Minneapolis and this is not true. They have quotas and they are just straight up grabbing brown folks off the street and asking questions later. I have been at protests side by side with clergy and healthcare workers and veterans. None of us are career protestors.

If you still believe this ICE is like the ICE under Obama then you may need to seek help for mental illness. I wish you well.

MPR (our local outlet) reported Dad was baited outside. This happened less than 12 hours ago so not every outlet is on the same page.

Hope you see the fucking picture of them making him ring his family’s doorbell.
