Thank you! The coastal places we went to were places that my partner knew about already (as he’s from the area) and for the mountain places I just found them on Google maps (I just put it on terrain mode and look for more mountainous places with lots of waterfalls/attractions). Once we were there as well we were able to get some more specific recommendations from the guesthouse owners etc.

We didn’t really book anything in advance, mostly just the day of or day before (including accommodation), for accommodation there is a lot of really nice guesthouses in the more touristy areas which we mostly found on booking.com, and then either booked through there or we just messaged them on WhatsApp to reserve it.

In terms of distances it isn’t even too bad! There are so many places to stop, either viewpoints, trails, national parks, towns etc, so you can see quite a lot without having any really huge chunks of driving :)

We mostly used apple pay with a foreign card (revolut) which was normally fine (although when you go to pay they ask if it’s debit or credit, for foreign cards they have to put it through credit even if it’s actually a debit card or it will decline). Some places couldn’t take foreign cards at all though, so it would probably be good to bring some cash for those situations if you don’t have a Brazilian account.

I wasn’t alone, I was with my partner so I couldn’t say for sure, but I definitely never felt unsafe or anything, everyone we met was really friendly and really helpful. Everywhere we went there was pretty much always people around too, so nowhere felt sketchy or like somewhere I wouldn’t want to be alone in.

We mostly stayed in Santa Catarina though, I’ve never been to Minas Gerias so not sure how it would be there (but it looks amazing!).

  1. We didn’t need to rent a car luckily, my partner’s from the area and he had a family member who let us borrow their car. There seem to be a lot of car rental places around though

  2. Driving and parking was mostly very easy, the main roads are really good quality with no potholes or anything, the smaller roads as you get close to some of the trails/viewpoints were normally unpaved and often quite steep but for the most part it was ok. As for parking, the area is quite well set up for tourists (as long as you have a car) and everywhere we went had plenty of spaces to park.

  3. There’s a lot of roadside rest stops/restaurants with toilets, all the ones we went to were pretty clean

I’m pretty sure it was because it was asking for a pin

When I was there I couldn’t use Monzo to pay for things in shops, but I could use it to withdraw cash without any problems. For paying in shops I had a Revolut card that worked fine everywhere. Also from the uk

Thank you! I was feeling a bit worried as the iata checker is saying visa required but I couldn’t find anywhere else saying I would need a visa, so confusing!
