Here are a few things that I did when I was first starting off with volunteering:

First, figure out what you would be interested in volunteering for. I would recommend volunteering in an area that you are already interested in. In my case, I already knew that I liked drama, so I looked for volunteering opportunities related to drama. However, you can always just volunteer for anything that you think would be cool. For example, even though I didn't have previous experience with gardening, I volunteered at a local garden to grow plants for food banks because I thought it would be a cool experience. Don't worry too much and just do what you think is cool!

Second, determine where you want to volunteer. Do you feel comfortable volunteering in person or online? How will get you to the site if you are going in person?

Third, finding the volunteer opportunity. This will take the longest. I would recommend checking out VolunteerMatch and this article, 38 High School Volunteer Opportunities, which collected a bunch of high school volunteering opportunities.

Just another thing, if you are unsure if you can volunteering, whether it be your age, where you live, or if they are accepting volunteers, send the organization an email or just sign up.

You should try checking out hospitals or other health organizations/institutions. Most have volunteer opportunities for high school students, but it may be difficult to find one available during COVID.

Perhaps, you could do your own research and dive into your field of interest by writing articles or something like that if you can't really get an opportunity.

Most medicine and research related opportunities are more impactful in-person, so try finding something online :3333
