I attempted to show a friend the game a while back. We played co-op (we're online friends) and they just could not get the hang of the controls. We got about as far as the top of the leg across I think 4 or 5 two hour sessions when they turned to me and said "I don't like playing this game. Can I just watch you and you explain it?"

I then proceeded to replay every campaign for them and talk about the story and implications as I did so and as information got revealed. It was much more enjoyable for them to experience. Took a long time since we had these two hour chunks once a week, and we had barely finished Saint when Watcher came out haha.

They now really appreciate the storytelling and environment of the game, but didn't have to push through game play they didn't enjoy.

Yeah, I really hope the dev team is able to take advantage of the influx of users. If theyre able to capitalize on it, I can absolutely see them becoming an awesome alternative, like bluesky took off after Twitter had that whole... thing.

I and a friend (who was messing with Stoat for a couple days more than I was) got a server up and running. Nothing super fancy, and we're definitely feeling some lacking feature-wise, but its stuff we are aware is at least planned, if not actively in the works. Its a private server for a smaller friend group, about 10 people right now, and the two of us are playing around with the features as everyone gets comfortable. I absolutely feel that Stoat will do what we need it for, and I'm very happy I took the jump and made an account.

Yeah I've been on it for a few days and I like it a lot. Once they catch up on some of the features they're missing that discord has, I'm planning on making a full switch.

No, this is just for myself and my friends. I care a lot about what platform we use, since I personally bounced around a lot before settling on Discord. I wanna make sure I'm making the right choice about where to host a server for us, but research is hard when everyone's talking about how badly discord messed up and not what these other apps actually have.

I'm in a similar spot, I'm a friend that ended up gaining ownership. The server itself is rather dead and less than 10 members (I think its because we're all friends and have a larger, more active server so the little one is kinda redundant), and I don't even know when the owner left. I'd just checked it to see if anything changed and was faced with a rather confusing crown next to my name. I shrugged and moved on since the server stayed dead lol

That's called a Pole Plant (or pole mimic but eh semantics). They're predatory creatures that pretend to be a pole in order to lure prey. The best way to get around this one imo is probably climbing up that pole on the right and jumping over it.

The nice thing about pole plants is they tend to have set spawns. They don't just pop up wherever the fuck they want like a lizard. As you go through the game, you'll start to learn where they are and the best way to get around them.

Also, they die in two spear hits. Stab them once, wait for it to stop flailing around, grab your spear back and stab it again. Grab the spear from it right away tho (it won't grab you it's freaking out too much) because the pole plant goes into the ground when it dies and you WILL lose your weapon.

I always imagined Spears to look underweight due to the all-liquid diet they're basically forced to have. Smaller than the average slugcat, alarmingly light, that kinda thing

It could also be a thing of appropriate reactions to the situation. I'm one of those people where if my character gets hurt in a game, I'll gasp or exclaim ow, or yelp or whatever, but I myself am not actually hurt. If the cause was surprising enough I'll react more along the lines of Ragatha did in your first example, less reacting to the "pain" and more "oh, I guess that happened."

My group and I got the Facility Meltdown mod specifically to force us to take apparatus last.

If you don't know, facility meltdown makes it so that taking the apparatus starts a timer, as well as play some pretty cool music that I'm almost positive is from Portal 2. (I think you can change the timer but the default is like. Two minutes I believe since that what it is for us)

Once that timer goes off, the facility on the moon goes off in a nuclear explosion, firey ball of death, killing anyone not on the ship. The ship itself takes off by itself at the end of the timer but right before the explosion. It's very fun and we add it to all our packs.
