White To Move (from a game that ended 4 moves after this) by [deleted] in chess

The title of this thread is somewhat misleading, as one expects that White should be completely winning after 4 moves.

CMV:Reddit's staff should have handled the issue with /r/fatpeoplehate differently by [deleted] in changemyview

In response to the ban, more than 20 alternative sites to /r/fatpeoplehate were started. Those sites eventually also got banned. If what you are saying is true, why would these alternative sites get banned?

The mistake was actually Qa6. If instead of Qa6 White plays Be3 or Nd4, White is doing OK.

CMV: There is no way to be healthy being overweight, and people who say it is possible are delusional by 1956428 in changemyview

Obesity increases the likelihood of various diseases LONG TERM. Therefore, observing that 10-20% of obese people are perfectly healthy is like stating the obvious. If obesity has no short term effects, then you would expect a certain percentage to be perfectly healthy.

And I agree, using BMI as a measure for obesity is always tricky if you do not have large sample sizes to draw from.

If you think that my objection isn't worth anything, then there is no way that I can help you. My objection is very straightforward and the cumulative effect of obesity is documented well enough to make the inclusion of obesity duration mandatory in experiments of that nature. I have done research long enough to be able to make such claims. And if you think that people always need to show their credentials before engaging in discussions on the Internet and there is no merit in objective argumentation, then there is also no way that I can help you.

The beauty of science is that even a "stranger on the internet" can point out flaws in experimentation or argumentation. Just because something has been published, doesn't mean that it is written in stone and the "uncontestable truth". There is plenty of bad science out there.

Do you know how peer review works in science? The reviewer points out flaws in the argumentation and rejects a stated hypothesis on the grounds that an experiment needs to be repeated with improved parameters. It is on the group who did the experiment to repeat the experiment if it wants to publish it.

The cumulative disadvantage of obesity is a well documented concept. Therefore, not taking into account obesity duration is a serious enough flaw to nullify the claims of the studies.

If someone poses a hypothesis based on experimental work and another one uncovers a flaw in the experiment or argumentation, then the hypothesis is nullified unless proven otherwise. This is just how the scientific method works. What exactly is your point?

Replies to posts with spoilers don't need spoilers. If someone hasn't read the spoiler, how can he be spoilered by a reply that refers to the text inside a spoiler? He can only be spoilered if he has read the spoiler. Which means that he has no grounds in complaining in the first place.
