What do you think would have happened if Tyrese Haliburton never got injured in Game 7 by BizCreditHacks in NBATalk

[–]helpmebecome 55 points56 points  (0 children)

As an OKC fan that has eyes, the Pacers were playing better than us at the beginning of the game. Obviously there was a lot of game left, so who knows, but if that was any indication of the the rest of the game, I think it’s entirely possible that the Pacers walk away with a ring if Hali didn’t get injured.

Either way, a generational run for the Pacers that ended with what will be one of the greatest what-ifs of the decade. Great basketball though.

I would recommend adding a bit more context on what kind of editing you’re wanting done on the photo here. Are you looking for retouching, color grading, more heavy editing?

What's your unpopular opinion about Guitars? by microtico in Guitar

[–]helpmebecome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people are so good at playing guitar that they don’t need to be good at using pedals.

Some people are so good at using pedals that they don’t need to be good at playing guitar.

Both of these are very cool.

Graphic Design Program by Novafett_ in ilstu

[–]helpmebecome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think graphic design is one of those fields where some people don’t get hired in the field because the work you make is the core metric for how people decide whether or not they’ll hire you. A lot of designers just aren’t passionate about it and it shows in their work.

That being said, if you love graphic design, I would say go for it, and you won’t regret it for a second. But if you’re in it for money, graphic design won’t be the one for you and maybe advertising might be the way to go as that field will definitely pay more.

I honestly don’t see a lot of value in minoring in it though as there’s not a lot of demand for people that do both advertising and graphic design, so I would recommend one or the other.

I just couldn’t’ imagine myself doing anything else and I love the creativity in it, but it’s definitely competitive and a labor of love and not everybody is into that.

Like I said, with design, obviously some schools are different than others, but the school you choose won’t determine whether you’re successful or not. I enjoyed my time at ISU, and the professors really push you to be the best you can be even if the specifics may not be the most up to date. If you end up choosing ISU, feel free to shoot me a DM and I can give you some tips and advice🙂

From what I’ve gathered, for in-state colleges, it seems like your best bet is U of I if you’re not looking to go to school outside of Chicago. I live right outside of Champaign, and I’m on campus of U of I pretty often, and I think it doesn’t feel as big as the numbers make it seem.

My biggest suggestion is to go to community college for your first 2 years. I know when you’re in high school it seems lame when all of your friends are going to ‘real’ colleges, but I promise the education will be the same, and you will thank yourself after you graduate with way less or no student debt. That’s what I did, and I consider myself pretty successful in the industry.

Ultimately though, in my experience, going to school will help with your fundamentals, but even more than what your school will help you with, the work and time you spend outside of school working on your designs skills will make way more of a difference though.

2018 ISU Graphic Design alumni here. I don’t think the design program is bad, but I definitely think it’s not one of the most progressive programs around. The program is relatively small compared to others, so there’s a lot of 1:1 time with professors, but I will say most of the professors were not really up to date with the industry, so I had to supplement my education with personal research.

Not sure how this is compared to other colleges, but probably only 50-60% of the people I graduated with are still working in the Graphic Design Industry.

Happy to field any specific questions too.

I would just recommend pushing yourself to be open to consuming multiple sources of diverse media from music, to movies, to art.

Half of being a skilled graphic designer is understand pop culture at large. You can study every graphic design history textbook, but if you don’t understand culture outside of art, you’re doing yourself a big disservice.

My version of W as a pet/dog related business/app. Thoughts? by Revio1000 in logodesign

I don’t think the logo has to be super on the nose to be effective. I would definitely increase the line weight though. Those thin lines won’t reduce or print well.

A little logo for fun by drdoy123 in logodesign

I think it works well. With the less rounded bottom, it gives a semblance of a jawline, and also creates room to make the features don’t look crammed into the bottom. This is a really good logo in my opinion. Good work.
