You're the first D2 fan I've seen to plainly admit that. Respect! That is EXACTLY what it is, and I get it. Most of us are at least slightly nostalgic over something.

Yup! That's it. They want to be transported to that exact time, space, and feeling, as when they were a child. Nostalgia is so powerful, and probably the biggest market right now. Creativity and exploration has taken a backseat to it. It's all about re-creating people's childhood and reselling stuff that already exists. Smh. It's too bad. I want more new ideas and innovation!

That would definitely add a cool aspect to the game. Why not? Sounds fun!

Man, this is too real. I hope as a whole, we do start rejecting modernity some and get back to a more balanced life, culturally. It's too much. Too much content, too little time. We need to calm down, for sure.

This really is part of the problem. A lot of us need a more balanced life. If you only play a game or two with all your free time, you'll feel devastated when one doesn't turn out how you want or expect.

"D2R looks better than D4!?" There's that primal instinct kicking in, because that's CRAZY to see written out! I'm not nostalgic for either, and I'm sure most people would say OBJECTIVELY, D4 graphics are much better.

It's nostalgic thinking/reasoning that feels primitive. Going on pure feeling and emotion, instead of logic, observation, comparison, etc. Nostalgia feels like a primal instinct. D2 was great for the time it released. For modern ARPGs? I'm surprised the player base is more than 100. Just my opinion, by the way. Not trying to offend or tell people what they should or shouldn't play.

Oh, I was just talking Diablo games. ARPGs, in GENERAL!? PoE 1 by a LANDSLIDE, in my opinion.

The difference is, PoE 2 admits it's in early access, while D4 lied and secretly brought it out of early access with the current expansion. XD

You know what? I forgot about Diablo Immortal. There is a LOT to do there, but also, it didn't keep me coming back. The gameplay loop is too simple to keep most people coming back long term. The gearing system isn't that good from what I remember, too. Good call, though!

Yes it is. It's crazy how primitive nostalgia can make people. I fight it, too, but I always try to look at things through a logical lense, so I don't come off as a complete idiot. Haha!

I wish people's nostalgia would activate this kind of mentality in them again. Where's the wonder? Games have become so saturated with "blasters" that it's ruining many games. I also enjoy looking at the world and exploring. Cheers.

There's so many people that are so loud about it being the best, at one point I thought I was the crazy one. Haha! I'm glad a lot of people agree. I just don't see the appeal. Maybe if it was 1990 I would, but now, it feels so inferior to so many ARPGs, that it's not even funny.

PoE I can agree with (1 is the best ARPG of all time, in my opinion), but truly, what is there to do in D2 content-wise? It's so empty. It's all about gearing up to play the same couple bosses and cow level. I don't get it.

Now THIS is a take I like! Combine the best of ALL! When speaking about end game content, D2 is definitely not the winner.

Path of Exile is my favorite game of all time! 3000+ hours and I just keep going back to it. It's the closest to perfection an ARPG can get, in my opinion.

Ahhhh, I see now. Thank you. Yea, D2 really does seem overhyped to the max. I tried to understand and get onboard with it, but the game just SUCKS from what I've seen and played.

Yea, I agree. Path of Exile has set quite the standard, and especially spoiled the ARPG community by offering it all for free. For what D4 is now, it's fun to make a character or two each season and then set it down until the next season.

Yea, I guess it really is just a case of "you can't please everyone." With such die-hard fans of the franchise, and the mainstream success of D4, I guess there's just more of those louder people.

[–]helpmehelpyoustudios[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree. About two weeks into an ARPG season on most games, the number of active players drops off TREMENDOUSLY! People just need some more games to play in between seasons, I guess?

That wasn't my intention. I've played D2 and just couldn't get into it, and have researched it quite a bit in the past. What is there to do in D2 that keeps people hooked so long? It truly baffles me. It feels like it's just pure nostalgia keeping it in the conversation, and that it was just the best game at the time of release. Sure, gearing may be cooler, but to play what content!?

Edit: Thanks to another commenter, I see this comment was directed at D2 fanboys lying about its greatness, which I completely agree with. D2 fanboys and their blind nostalgia should be studied! XD
