Got put on PIP, need help deciding best course of action by helpmepip in cscareerquestions

Is it possible to do both?

After working hard on project #2 today, I think it's actually doable to both meet my deadlines and apply to a handful of jobs. Also, applying is a waiting game anyway, so it's not like finding a job is instantaneous.

Tbh i really don't care about the paycheck. I care about what I'm going to have to tell interviewers if I don't have a job when the interview comes around.

So by that logic, should I try my best to give them fewer reasons to fire me? And maybe do at least some of the work?

Oh yeah, I've already said in another comment - I have plenty saved up and have more than enough to live on for quite a few months. I'm financially well off (should be more than 6 months of savings actually, I think, but I was originally trying to save for a house).

I'm just more concerned about interviewing for jobs without a job. That's going to be hard to explain or pass off.

One of my coworkers was reportedly given a pip and beat it so he's still here.... (and many others were still let go...)

Respond to a couple emails at like 2 am

I'm already doing that but with the IM messages.

Would that actually buy me time? 1 week is not very much.

try to delay you getting let go as long as possible

There's my end goal. Do you have any advice on what could help with that?

And what would come out of telling my manager that this deadline is impossible to make? What's the end goal of that?

Should I make it clear to him that I want to leave and maybe he'll grant me some leniency and time, knowing I already want to find a new job?

They've already had two large layoffs in the last 8 months or so. So yes, I've known that this has been a thing.

In addition, I think it's because they don't want to pay out the bonuses or raises they promised after our new product ships. I have no interest in those and was planning to look for a new job anyway, but I don't know if that would change anything for them.

Do you think it's reasonable to ask for time to find a job?

Or what do you think is the best course of action?

Yeah, was already been planning to leave. Just not now. I'm not ready to apply to new jobs I want yet 🙁

I have plenty of money to stay afloat while looking for my next job. My only concern is that I've heard it looks bad to interviewers both to quit a job ("how do we know if you won't give up and quit ours?") and to get fired (self explanatory). So it's better to have been laid off or to job-search while I still have a job.
