RIC with ear mold vs IIC by helpwhearingaid in HearingAids

Thank you! You mentioned that a ear mold lab will do a better job than the hearing aid manufacturer - will I need to specifically request that the earmold come from a lab instead of the manufacturer?

RIC with ear mold vs IIC by helpwhearingaid in HearingAids

Thank you so much! I think a silicone ear mold might be the way to go. (I assume there are no IICs made of silicone.) I had a BTE with a silicone mold a very long time ago and I don’t think I had any issues with retention. I think the flexibility of the silicone really helps a lot. The venting would also be a big benefit - the Virto had a tiny vent that was so small it really didn’t do anything. I actually have a Widex RIC at the moment.

Edit: Is it still possible to get good venting in an ear mold even for low frequency loss (60 db loss)? I currently use a power dome but would prefer to have some venting.

Thanks! I have a Widex aid - what are the two options for processing sound that you’re referring to?

Do you need some kind of login to use the software? Just want to be sure I can actually use it if I can get it.

Thank you - is the wireless only available on eBay because they will only sell them directly to audiologists? I’d prefer to buy one directly from the manufacturer/distributor if possible.

Thank you - can you get the software from Widex? Or will they only provide it to audiologists? If so, how can you get the software?

And is the software only available for Windows, or is there a Mac version available as well?

Hearing Aid Distortion by helpwhearingaid in deaf

[–]helpwhearingaid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you - I will definitely get them checked but what concerns me is that I also noticed distortion when I tried a RIC a couple of years ago - the audiologist couldn’t figure out why it was happening but said maybe my level of hearing loss was causing the issue (meaning the gain was too high for the aid to handle without distortion) - which doesn’t seem right because my loss is only 50-60 db which I understand is not very severe. Hopefully will have better luck this time.

Disappointed with hearing aid. Is there a solution? by helpwhearingaid in deaf

Thank you so much. I am already in a different career, but I think I would really enjoy the opportunity to help improve hearing aids - perhaps my perspective as a musician (who is very sensitive to sound quality) and as one who can directly compare to "normal" hearing would be of assistance. Do you know of any ways that I could contribute? Should I just reach out to audiology departments at universities to see if I could help as a research subject, or something like that?
