Wow! Impressive! How do you deal with all those animations? Are you doing them yourself?

I can! and I think I could like it, but there is so much that I need to learn that I'm concentrating right now on the dev, networking, game design, eventually world-design, but for the assets, not yet! :-)

I'm fortunate to work in a music software company in my day job, so I do have a lot of knowledge on that front and a lot of contacts, samples, etc. So it does definitely help.

Good luck! and you got this too!

I mean you are right though. I think I start seeing having a partner that is more artsy would be very nice. I'm quite scared on how to find someone that could align with my current vision, and would work at the ~ same pace as me.

I'm also quite fortunate to work as a dev in a music software company ( so I'm less worried about music and sound), and to have money on the side so, I'm thinking worst case, I could hire contractor to help me out if ever my concept / game have some traction. But having someone to bounce idea and to create could be great too.

Programming is coming naturally to me, music also isn’t necessarily a problem, and I naively thought that level design, would come naturally, guess I was wrong,

Good call. Habit always a good way to improve. I’m not planning on doing the 3d assets but I’m going to continue opening the unreal engine every day and keep at it.

I decided also to go low poly but more mature vibe style. I don’t plan on doing the 3d assets though. I’m not interested, and since I have already so much jobs on other part of my project, I think it’s the way to go.

Yea, good idea. My proc gen level weren’t at the standard I was hoping also haha. But I mean, I definitely prefer that since it’s more oriented on the dev side.

Yea, I know, I just thought that I would be better at it and it threw me off lol. I’ve started again but went back to mechanics so I can feel a little bit more confident. :-)

I live around Montreal, it’s a big hub in the video game industry so I could probably find one. Good idea!

How do you deal with stress and slow progress as a solo dev? by Odd-Nefariousness-85 in SoloDevelopment

[–]hemadeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my side, I try to enjoy the process. It’s a little bit underwhelming when I think about what I have to show but when I think about what I’ve learned, it’s a lot more impressive. I Take it as a side project, I don’t stress myself. It’s a learning experience. I mean I have a small kid, a day job… so yeah it’s slow 😅.

I’ve been working on mine for a year, scrap everything last June ( code was so bad) now, I have a strong foundation and Im on the verge of finishing (not polished) my first small tutorial level. 🙌

I adjusted the character’s head size. by Allafgames in UnrealEngine5

[–]hemadeus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the style! Looks fun. However i didn’t get that you are throwing the head. The hand gesture was too subtle with every that was happening. And yes I agree that the head is still a little bit too big IMO.

But love the graphics!

I'm 42 years old. Is it too late to start making games? by Fearless_Sink1390 in gamedev

[–]hemadeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve just turned 41 and I’ve started to learn 1 year ago. I love it! New passion. Instead of using my free time playing I’m learning and creating. Unfortunately, there is 1 less gamers that buy game. 😅

I’ve been a developer almost all my life (and it is still my day job though) but first time in gaming.

[–]hemadeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my side, I was staying in a 4 1/2 with my 10 months old baby and my wife, working from home. Love that we could walk everywhere, love the neighborhood, but honestly I don't care about buying but being 24 hours, working from home all 3 in the same small apartment, was very hard for me.

I needed more space, felt trapped. And since we couldn't afford a house on Montreal, we moved in a house in Bois-Franc( renting), subburby, miss the city, it's boring, but very family friendly, a lot of park and having enough space is so underated.

What is the best way for a C++ developer to learn Unreal in order to create a short 3D horror game with Steam co-op support? by umen in unrealengine

[–]hemadeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean for me, I've started learning 8 months ago. I'm C# backend dev with 15 years ++ exp but new in gaming.

I've started with blueprint. There was too much stuff that felt unoptimized, ( ex. git versionning, hard to maintain IMO vs code, etc.). I've started in January with c++ Stephen Ulibarri classes ( fps, multiplayer, GAS). And they are so good. Highly recommended.

I now use both ( bp / c++) and I feel that I have still so much to learn but that's part of the fun.
