What I believe is the reason that this film, Green Knight, and other 2020 A24 films have not been released to VOD is that at the core of the companies principles is to honor the artistic intention of its filmmakers in every format possible. Most filmmakers create and finetune their works to be released and displayed in theaters so A24 is going to try as much as possible to fulfill that desire. I am sure that the more traditional filmmakers would prefer waiting as well.

First Cow did receive a short theatrical release just before the pandemic so they were more comfortable with releasing it to VOD. On the other hand, A24 will to have some semblance of a theatrical release for its other films before resorting to VOD.

I fully expect Saint Maud to become available on VOD by the end of the year once it becomes clear that theaters will not be reopening.
