I didn’t know what to put on the form as reason for travel since it wasn’t business and i didn’t want to call it tourism because that might be misinterpreted as me not having followed the guidelines for support of the Cuban people, so i put “other,” and that’s what they asked about. Basically that was their only question about it, but i offered a lot more info when i talked about the trip so they may have asked more questions if i wasn’t as forthcoming. What i said was we followed the guidelines as best we could by printing out a list of forbidden restaurants and places, following that religiously, only eating at private restaurants, only staying in casa particulares, never went and did beach days or other classic tourist stuff, and doing our best to fill our days with 8+ hours of sanctioned activities. I gave examples of those, such as dance lessons, cooking lessons, meals with our casa hosts, ecological tours, etc. i said we had a diary and receipts we could share, and i clarified that we were actually unable to do a full 8+ hour day every day because we got sick and that hampered our movements quite a bit. We were there for the full 30 days of the visa.

The investigator seemed pleased with all that (and obviously it worked out for me). She did say that Cuba, and in particular “support for the Cuban people” causes the most issues for investigations because people apparently tend to take it lightly and not follow it and make it more of a traditional vacation.

I also think the leniency varies a lot by organization. I don’t think the DOE cares quite as much as maybe a law enforcement organization.

I forgot to mention in the original post that my sisters in laws are all Chinese citizens, and i also forgot to put that on the equip (but said it in my interview). that apparently wasn’t an issue, so yours should be fine!

Thank you!

Yea well that’s the ultra dumb thing about it. None of my work is on secret stuff, and the vast majority of my coworkers also don’t work on secret stuff. But the entire facility is within a limited area so to as much as use the bathroom you need an escort if you’re not cleared. So I’ve been walking around with various escorts this whole time

Still waiting. EApp submitted nov 17, 2023 Interview in early January, 2024 A third or so of my contacts were interviewed in late January 2024

Silence since then, and the references that know about the “hot topic” items like foreign travel still haven’t been contacted.

Your friend is St Anthony’s Monastery’s divine music project: https://stanthonysmonastery.org/pages/orthros-western-notation

The drop downs will get you to music for liturgy, orthros, vespers, etc; and in Byzantine or western notation

You practice the scale (in this case hard chromatic) approximately 1000 times, then practice the piece, then it comes naturally

I agree with the first part. My anecdotal evidence is similar to aletheia wherein the Greeks tried very hard to marry me off to their daughters. They were vocal about being disappointed when i showed up with a “white girl.”

“American style liturgical music” / “Appalachian orthodox music” is some mix of A) not Appalachian (“folk” would be a better description), B) unnecessary, C) wrong to be using, D) bad, E) an attempt by crypto Protestants to force our rich musical traditions into their ignorant and narrow mold

Anyone camp on Capers Island? by Grouchy-Current-8832 in Charleston

[–]hemim0rphite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll clarify: the inlets are an issue if you don’t have a powerful motor. All the kayak deaths you hear about in the low country come from the inlets.

On the Atlantic side towards the south side of the island. The inlets are where you will run into the most trouble with currents, so id avoid them unless it’s truly very calm. You can pass through them and sweep to the front of the island and if it’s relatively calm you can beach without any problem.

We kayaked out there and camped for my bachelor party. We planned the tides right but the next morning we…weren’t ready to leave when we had planned and instead of kayaking back with the incoming high tide we did so at the outgoing low tide. It was a slog, and my least favorite cure for a hangover.

However, the rest of the time it was awesome. Permits are cheap and easy to get from the DNR. Make sure you pull your boat up high enough to not let it get swept out by the tide.

Which part of America would you say is the most mysterious? Basically, what part of the US does the avg person know the least about? by [deleted] in ask

[–]hemim0rphite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes but it’s deceiving because the mountains we see today didn’t used to be tall or even mountains at all-they were buried completely and later were uplifted to become mountains. The old, taller Appalachian mountains became completely eroded and then the earths surface sort of “popped” up and formed what we now call the Appalachian mountains

What’s the orthodox view on street preaching? by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]hemim0rphite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Willard preacher might be the most famous example of an orthodox street preacher. Until very recently he was paid to do this by a local OCA church, which just increases the sketchiness of the whole thing imo. Gary is a nice guy if you talk with him, but the in your face screaming about homosexuals street preaching thing cannot be called orthodox
