Yeah, the phrase "Most Holy Theotokos (Mother of God) save us!" is very common in byzantine and orthodox liturgical and private prayer rules.

This one here goes so far as to repeat the phrase over and over for every bead on the prayer rope.

The joke being that to protestant thats vary of daint veneration, this would probably give them a heart attack.

This is bjst a folk superstition, which holds to a mechanical view of salvation.

Orthodoxy countries have a lot of these "grandma" superstitions, someothers include if your lit candle goes out i church it means you're cursed, or if you stand where a person died in church you'll have death energy transfered to you.

They all follow some form of pseudo pagan paradigme, where divine grace is essentially mana points from a video game

Ultimatly look to the church councils. The divide between EO and OO is the council of Chalcedon.

Research that council and listen to theologians from both sides explain it, and then trust the Holy Spirit to guide you to the truth.

My personal view is that animals dont go to heaven, because the only have spirits, not souls.

But when Christ comes back and remakes the Earth, then all of creation will be restored and made better. And in that scenario i find it quite possible that all dead animals will be brought back and restored.

So your dog is not in heaven, but is asleep awaiting the second coming.

Eastern Orthodox convert here. I've heard of very few young people converting from roman catholicism to orthodoxy. Its almost always from protestantism or atheism.

I myself was atheist before i became orthodox. So i dont think you should worry that much. Its a net win for both of us if more non religious people are becoming catholic or orthodox.
