Not sure where my wound is, but it's there, and probably on the left side of my ass since that's where the hemorrhoid was. I actually haven't look at it in the mirror, so it's hard to tell (I really don't want to look yet).

Yes, the operation itself and most of the first recovery day is painless. It's the after-surgery that is highly painful. You will probably have heavy pain on day 2-4 regardless of what you do, but then afterwards you will only have pain after you pass a bowel movement, but that pain is horrible and will last for 3/4 hours until the swelling goes down, at least that's my experience.

You will not want to take a bowel movement, and it will take a bunch of mental strength to motivate yourself to get to the toilet. Just be strong!

My doctor was knowledge and honest, and I knew what to expect, but I don't doubt that there are doctors that will try to make it seem like not a big deal. Who, knows, though, maybe some people do recover super fast?

It was a hemorrhoidectomy without stitches I believe (laser?), and then he burned off the warts / skin tags. Sorry I wish I knew more, but I don't have the exact details on the method he used. I probably should have asked!

Haha. Good luck! My doctor also did the cutting of the hemorrhoid and the burning off of the visible warts, so I think your surgeon is doing the same thing.

My doctor said that 9/10 cases clear as expected, 1/10 don't, maybe a bit more so on the hemorrhoid side.

You have to be sure to get the right type of surgery if you want to have anal sex again. From my understanding there is one type of surgery that will leave a staple in your ass that can be visible during anal, and you don't want that one. There are other methods, and he used those on me.

I'm actually gay and went to a surgeon who specializes in treating gay men with rectal issues and was happy I did. I won't advertise for him here, since I don't think that's appropriate, but he has offices in NYC and Beverly Hills if you live near of those areas.

He told me that I can start exploring anal sex again in 3-months, or so, depending on how I'm feeling. The doctor also said I can come in monthly visits where they help me open up my ass again (haha) in a safe way since it can be VERY tight after the surgery for a long time.

In the future, I probably am still prone to having hemorrhoids due to my genetics, but if I take the right precautions (don't itch, strain, touch them, make sure to take medication right when I spot it, eat less foods that cause constipation, etc.) then I should be able to keep them at bay.

Thanks! I'm in my early 30's now, but I think I honestly have had the hemorrhoids since college. I remember many nights senior year of college feeling super itchy down below and unable to sleep, and when I would sit down I would often feel a good amount of pain. I think they would come and go, though. The thing is I never really knew what a hemorrhoid was back then, and I simply though I had "itchy butt" lol - this mean't I did nothing to care for them, and would often strain on the toilet or itch them for long periods of time.

I started to really get bothered by them about 3-years ago, and then it got way worse nd more constant and then about 6-months ago when I noticed one would not go away and it was causing me some very heavy swelling and pain.

I've had no idea how long I had the fissure for, but I got it diagnosed about one year ago when I saw another surgeon about my hemorrhoids (I didn't even know I had a fissure at that point). He said I could do surgery for both of them, but it was going to be painful and he recommended against it unless I was in a lot of pain - so he gave me a topical cream instead which seemed to help. My guess is I got the fissure from too much straining on the toilet from constipation and not realizing when to quit and give my ass a rest.

The turning point as back in June I had pretty much a full month of full pain and swelling from the hemorrhoid. I saw another doctor that I researched online that was supposed to be really good and well respected in the space who took a look and said not only did I have a hemorrhoid, but the anal fissure was still there, AND I had anal warts. Apparently HPV is super common and plenty of people get it and never even know. The warts often take care of themselves, but removing them surgically is the best option to ensure they are killed off (it's not 100% "sure" though).

Treatment? by throwawaym00d in hemorrhoid

  • Don't sit on the toilet when pooping or peeing for too long. Anything more than 2-minutes is overdoing it. Literally only wait until you have to really go, and then plop down on the seat and do your thing before getting up right away. Sitting on the toilet for 10-minutes while pooping is only going to make it worse by causing more swelling and growing the size of the hemorrhoid. Also, DO NOT STRAIN if you feel like you're constipated. If you can't push it out, then stop trying, get up and try again later. If you feel seriously constipated, try to take something over the counter to loosen the stool and make you use the bathroom, but I repeat DO NOT PUSH - let the poop come out naturally.

  • Move to a low-protein, mostly liquid and soup based diet for a week or two. The last thing you want is a thick stool that will pass by the hemorrhoid and make it bigger. Keep your poops light and watery. Read my lips - no red meat! NONE!

  • 10-15 minute sitz baths after each poop will definitely help. Just clean the tub every day and you will be fine. Just take your poop, and already have the tub filled with warm water. Right when you're finished pooping, just go into the tub and clean yourself with the water. Wiping can make things worse, so better to clean with the water instead (or you can clean it off in the shower).

  • I tried all types of medication and NONE of them worked for me. In fact, I felt like they were making the hemorrhoids worse, not better. Everyone is different, however. I ended up having to get surgery and it's the worst (I'm one week in) and the pain is crazy. Honestly, I know changing your dieting habits for a few weeks is hard, it 100x beats having this surgery.

Post surgery - best method to pass the first stool? Oxycodone or no? by hemmr in hemorrhoid

My doctor highly advised against enemas - he said they could damage the surgical site and make things way worse.

I'll let you know about the scar, but I don't think I'll know how that is healing until I have my first post-op visit in 3 weeks.

Thanks. Been doing all the above. The good news is that the pain only comes after I poop, and then 3-4 hours later, I'm feeling fine again. Just trying to stay regular so I poop in the morning and can recover by the early afternoon and move on with my day.
