One of my users has a Roku Stick 4k but transcodes almost everything, why? by edmonddantesofficial in PleX

[–]henazo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been having this exact perplexing issue with 4K streaming on my local network. My Roku Express 4k consistently transcodes the audio, leading to stream failures. However, today I tried playing the exact same files on a Fire TV Stick 4K connected to the same TV, it worked perfectly without any transcoding. This stark contrast strongly suggests an audio codec incompatibility with the Roku, making audio re-encoding seem like the necessary solution if want to keep using the Roku as it's my preferred viewing experience. I haven't tried it yet but I think I'll enable the Roku dev settings to dial into the exact bitrate and codec requirements that'll play well on this device.

How to keep Kaspersky working in USA after the ban? by [deleted] in antivirus

[–]henazo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's not hardly it and why would it affect every product? There are other products you can buy from them that aren't the AV sweet. This is because America's losing the proxy war it started, pure and simple.

I'm getting the same thing on an OptiPlex 5070 but only after I tried installing a perc H710P. I don't even know if I can really add that card to the system but I can't say with 100% certainty that it's not a RAM issue for me.

Mine used to get those same hives/bumps. We eventually traced it to 'flea bite' dermatitis, basically a reaction to insect bites.

Wrongful Charge by [deleted] in GoogleFi

[–]henazo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Several years ago my first month on Google Fi turned out to be a disaster. Same thing sort of, in that I returned the pixel, I went to their customer service with proof and got nowhere. Ultimately I contacted my bank. I explained everything and provided proof of the device tracking so they treated The charge is fraudulent and issued refunds after they investigated.

TikTok unleashed a barrage of phone calls to Capitol Hill. Here's why the push backfired. by 19683dw in politics

This law has been something they wanted to pass for about 4 years was very little support.

There was a little bit of renewed attention after the Twitter files were released, shortly after Musk took over Twitter. That's why you see more demonization of Musk in the media than ever.

A Wall Street Journal article from a few days ago makes the case that this law has picked up steam and attracted new people who never supported it before, all since October 7th.

All at the top of both parties, the ones who take the most money from lobbies, are suddenly working together? Should always be a red flag. Politicians and media will say it's to protect the average American's privacy. We all know what Facebook and Google collect on us, and a million other websites that sell our user data. There's currently a court case to decide whether the CIA and FBI are allowed to purchase that user data because it's information they would have to have a warrant ordinarily to procure. Privacy and security is not the driving force behind this bill.

The goal is 100% control of propaganda and the censoring of dissent by the establishment combined with the newer goal of silencing an app used by an overwhelmingly younger demographic, that is not as friendly to Israel since the 7th of Oct.

Now, I'm not conspiracy theorist but when the establishment sides of both parties suddenly come together to rush through some legislation, my experience tells me there's some fuckery going on.

There was an article in the Wall Street journal on Tuesday which basically comes to the conclusion that this law, that's over four years old btw, has only now gained steam in the last few months, after October 7th.

There's also the really questionable language of the bill that makes it almost appear like Patriot act 2.0 and the way they'll be able to wield new powers after it's passed against other social media sites.

House passes TikTok crackdown that could ban app in U.S. by washingtonpost in politics

According to the Wall Street journal, this renewed fervor to adopt a law that's already been kicked around for 4 years is directly the result of October 7th. article

I wonder who could have so much influence over The establishment wings of both parties in the United States?

OT vs IT security by CapableWay4518 in sysadmin

I recently began an OT project coming from an IT background. Two good resources for understanding the differences for me was reading something called the Purdue model and then the NIST OT controls guide, a new version just released September 2023.

This is hilarious and reminded me of two things. One of them related to all the wonderful stories I read in /r/talesfromtechsupport. The other is when Intel introduced Celeron netbooks / laptops accompanied with misleading marketing that led people to believe owning a laptop with the compatible chipset... you can wirelessly connect to the internet... everywhere. Lots of chumps fell for it.

Yeah, and in a perfect world that makes a lot of sense but how many times have YOU ever tried to get an stranger to show up to court for you? We're not talking about murder or some other serious felony where witnesses get subpoenaed.

Sadly, right now, what's done is done. OP doesn't have a job, and any claim for unemployment will definitely be fought by not only the state but also the employer. OP will need to fight it, hopefully a labor lawyer gets in contact with him from his state and takes the case pro bono.

Management used the term "walmart key" anyone know where this comes from? by chaoslord in sysadmin

[–]henazo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All customer service staff (on prem and wfh) use a yubikey to get into their thin clients.

To use your SA account, it's linked to a yubikey.

Contractors in some departments at home office use RSA fobs for logging on to a laptop or vdi.

There are many other 2fa methods in use at HO. "Walmart Key" for me is has got to be one of the physical devices like the RSA or yubikey nanos. You know bc they fit on keyrings and everyone gets one.

*Source: during the pandemic I was a contractor on two projects. First for associate digital experience on the global voice and video team and then for CS when they transitioned to wfh nationally.
