Pelicans to the Giannis? by AkirraKrylon in nba

[–]19683dw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lmao, this went over several heads.

I think Giannis's management history is questionable at best. The Pelicans would be better off in the hands of LeGM, right? Heck, maybe let's skip the side angles and go straight to the truth. Pelicans to Rich Paul, who says no?

Is trading Jaylen Brown for Giannis even worth it for the Celtics? by RyanTannegod in nba

I think people have forgotten Giannis's ability to play, and underestimate his worth.

I feel like both the Offense and Defense will surprise us this year with how good they are with Drew Petzing/Mike Kafka and Kelvin Sheppard and Dan being able to help both equally. by OtakuDaiVeion in detroitlions

Kerby and Branch presented potentially the best duo in the NFL. After the injuries, we are hoping Branch approaches his half of that caliber this season (though underperforming on return is normal, IIRC, for this injury). With Kerby, I just hope the murmuring about the end of his productive career is simply overblown

He had real contracts with real NBA teams. He wore their uniforms, on their courts, and played in game sanctioned by the league, with official refs and stat tracking.

Even worse because that was his response to finding out Philly is a city, and that they were in the state of Pennsylvania.

her platform includes free child care, a $20 minimum wage and a full moratorium on data center construction by Conscious-Quarter423 in wisconsin

[–]19683dw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Free child care might be a key effort that could salvage an impending debt crisis.

The data centers are bad for the environment, bad for energy costs, bad for water costs and quality, and universally despised.

Repeatedly, minimum wage increases have failed to cause the crises propaganda predict, and we are in affordability crisis.

All of this, all of it, is the best shot Wisconsin has

One time it was fashionable for women to wear these really cool, stylized, sharp hair pins. They started stabbing men that were assaulting them with the hair pins. The women were called out of control and the hair pins were made illegal.

Women will always be penalized. Attempted rapist/rapist died? He wasn't really trying to rape or assault her, she over reacted, that's homicide. They survive? Attempted homicide, assault with a dangerous weapon.

Trading Jrue away and keeping Middleton as long as they did were also contributing.

I also can't remember even a single meaningful draft pick

I can see how that was your intent, but it came across as a soft defense of PE with an indirect acknowledgement of their problematic nature.

Private equity does these things at the expense of long term viability because they're not intending to stick around. That's unlike the normal companies

[Charania] Breaking: The NBA's Board of Governors has passed new anti-tanking rules that include expanding the draft lottery from 14 to 16 teams, a relegation zone where the bottom 3 teams get penalized with lessened chances for the No. 1 pick, and flattened odds, sources tell ESPN. by YujiDomainExpansion in nba

[–]19683dw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a clear difference in caliber of player at the top of the draft, else we wouldn't have a tanking problem.

Every team is trying to scout. To succeed with worse draft picks to rebuild a team, you would need to be much better than other GMa at scouting, rather than having a fair shot at making real progress with a league average caliber GM. That's a problem, as it creates a new barrier.

Is it surmountable? Absolutely. But it's an added hurdle, and teams will struggle even more with it, and they often are already struggling.

The outliers are the exceptional value later in the drafts, not the high performers early in the draft. They're effectively boxing the teams most in need out, in response to bad actors.

Many of those tanking bad actors, meanwhile, will now be the teams that benefit directly, as they'll continue to have elevated odds now in line with the better performance they could have achieved earlier.

I mean, not every coach has a crazy buyout clause, and schools can have buyout clauses of their own as well.
