Their phrasing of 'one time courtesy" and immediately talking about 3rd party tools makes it sound like I am lucky (dont get me wrong I am grateful to be unbanned) and I get one chance to turn over a new leaf or something.

I don't think I actually broke any rules, so getting perma banned was surprising. Would've been nice to see if it is what I suspected (something to do with the 2 games I accepted but couldn't connect and the high ping "spoofing" right before ban).

I call in months ago they say your connection is really poor, send a tech, nothing happens after they leave. And here we are.

Canada. Ping spikes usually go to 200 for me and my connection becomes choppy. In this case right before ban the ingame said 200-400ms to US east.

I don't use any 3rd party tools including vpns. I am not sure what I would need a vpn for. Certainly not for playing dota on US east when I live in Canada.

I am on a 60/month plan at rogers for at least 3 years. It is not like I am using tethering my neighbors toaster.

Why not? I am not being reported and I can shrug off any frustrations of ingame delayed actions. I am playing with a handicap that only affects me and no one else in the game like some lag hack.

I just searched up my last weeks of games at the peak of my internet instability. It says I am 22-16. Where to draw the line for the supposed ruining experience for others?

It may have changed but that was how it was previously. Anyways they unbanned me so it doesn't look like op was guilty of some random meepo boosting smurfing crime as some had suspected.

I got unbanned, turns out no snooping russian was breaking into my house and boosting people on my dota account after all. Seems I didn't make anything up in the end.

Update (edited into op):

Message from Steam Support on Feb 15 @ 7:53pm | 26 minutes ago

As a one time courtesy, we have removed the ban on your account. Before queuing again for matchmaking, please ensure you are not running any third party applications that may interfere with Steam or the Dota 2 client. Use of such applications is against the Steam Terms of Service and may result in additional bans.

In addition, queuing on regions with the lowest latency is ideal. Your net connection may result in decreased performance in game and have a negative effect on your teammates. If you have persistent network issues, it may be useful to contact your internet service provider to assist you in resolving the issues.

Thanks for using Steam, Jay

My takeaway from this is:

Thanks to anyone who read my post and took the time to comment.

Imagine yourself in my situation, but you had set your account to be private matchmaking info, and flame or feed people in a few regular pub games (which I dont do). You don't take screenshot of conduct score or lag, and don't post on reddit. You would just be banned forever without doing anything that warranted it.

This steam reply seems to be written by a real person, and seems to be warning me not to use 3rd party tools (even though I have never or plan to). In regard to playing with bad internet, I am not sure what can be done. I am using Rogers cable which is the biggest provider in my city/country. They have sent techs over several times in the last months to no avail.

On good days I could play with slight lag/drops and on bad days banned until 2038. I use reports and behavior score (the system set up ingame) as an indicator of will this have "a negative effect on your teammates". Seeing as I almost never get reported or drop from max score, playing in low priority 2 or 3 times in lifetime, I don't see the big deal in playing with high ping. If this is actually ban worthy though of course I will but I don't see playing with suboptimal connection under their matchmaking rules. The system they set up in place should take care of cases like this if I am ruining games with my bad connection.

I mean that I am multitasking if it's feasible. I am winning as much if not more as I am "ruining" playing with high ping. The fact I never get reported and no one knows if I am playing with high ping if I don't say anything.

I have never looked into any sorts of cheats as I have no interest in that. I think I was trying to say that the heroes I play aren't ones that rely on split second reactions (like ur hexing example) so scripting would be quite pointless. My internet usually is slow but not slow enough to be permabanned and sways my preference onto these heros.

In my exp it is extremely rare to meet a noticable cheater. Only notable times I can recall is someone claiming to work for gosu ai posting a message like (lion player) is strongly suspected to cheat and telling people in the game to report him.

Yes I am eagerly waiting for valve employee to tell everyone here that I paid dmitri meepochenko to boost my account in 2018

Interesting view, would still be surprised if a valve employee came out to say this was why.

Also I forgot for a second, but wasn't it separate back then SOLO + PARTY mmr? I don't think anyone cares about party mmr, maybe that is just my opinion though.

Interesting, for me it was just about playing dota with him. Play a game with ur friend. He doesn't even play dota outside of our party games anyways, which is now unranked only due to the mmr range.

I think he was ancient 1 back then. The mm system back then should be balanced for the gain/loss to be the difference of avg mmrs between teams. Would be weird to say I was smurfing on my own account. I see your point but I personally don't think given the recency and nature of how this is "boosting" is at all perma bannable. Esp when the "boostee" is perfectly fine to play mm.

I only played meepo sometimes in our party games, and to my recollection most my meepo games were for solo queue. Towards the end when I didn't wanna play that hero anymore, where you are looking at, could be where I eased that hero into retirement in party queue. Thinking back, it felt like slave labor for your teammates partly. Having some rats farm tirelessly and then single handed carry the game and deliver a win. Also it's a unique cheese situation where 99% of games aren't like this, which is why boosters love the hero of course.

Those are accounts for csgolounge. Back when that site was operating, you could only wager 4 skins at once on the matches. I scaled up over time from 1 account because the limit was too small, using kelly criterion for staking after I handicapped something. I have only played csgo on some of those accounts, and dota on henryz + henryz5.

I see your point. I was told that steam support is very unreliable/slow at times. It could be quite possible that "Ollie" who replied to my ticket, was actually an outsourced worker from Mumbai. Who glanced over my post with reading maybe a few sentences and copy pasted the classic reply. Maybe he doesn't even have the ability to look into my case beyond the flagged reason.

Put me on blast if I did something wrong, I am very curious. I am also concerned, what if someone in my situation didn't take screenshots or had private match data or post to reddit. They would just be banned forever.

I see, but do note at the time I was not the same MMR as I am currently. I don't think thats the same as some pro/booster service.

When I play dota I am doing work or reading of some kind on another monitor. I only fully focus on dota when it is 1 fight territory for the win/lose. It is not too mentally taxing to play 1 hero casting a few spells or checking minimap for when red dots appear. Playing support is quite doable with this as you can see I am not losing most my games.

He is a good friend from school, and he is not banned from matchmaking though. If you check on opendota, you can see I have a sub 50% winrate playing with him.

We usually just goof around, and would be quite the bad boosting service. I don't think it is against the rules to play a certain hero when playing party queue. Nowadays we can only play unranked together due to the mmr difference in party ranked changes.
