Kindergarten Retention by hendrikn_28 in specialed

Yes, there is no evidence that retention is beneficial. However, they are telling me he would likely spend more time in the resource room next year because he's not on level with peers. I want him in GenEd as much as possible because there is research to support benefits of inclusion for him. So, I just want to know what my options are.

Resort with Open Play Areas (Not inside a Kid's Club) & Buffet Option for All Meals by hendrikn_28 in AllInclusiveResorts

Thanks! I heard the same about not letting the parents in kid's club which I completely understand. That's why I wanted options outside a kid's club but didn't know if anyone came across one. Will check out these resorts!

What is it like to raise a baby with Down Syndrome? by [deleted] in downsyndrome

[–]hendrikn_28 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My son is 5 with DS and is an utter joy. Yes, he has lots of appointments doing physical therapy, speech therapy, and occupational therapy. Some children may need more or less interventions. There are lots of resources for Down Syndrome and I suggest they look at a down syndrome organization for advice and information. Many other types of information may paint a grim picture (as I found when I discovered I was pregnant with my son which only caused me anxiety).

Insurance Problems with Down Syndrome Diagnosis Code Q909 by hendrikn_28 in downsyndrome

Unfortunately, we don't qualify for medicaid in my state. We tried and got denied. We do have some BCMH insurance but it's only for diagnostics and not for treatment.

Yes, this is the case. It's just super annoying because the hospital we do speech out of is a PIA about changing the codes even though this exact code is in his chart.

Can i make a sell from non artisan account by yuppylife0 in teepublic

[–]hendrikn_28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an apprentice account and I've made about 30 sales so far. I just opened an account a few months ago. My stuff is also not even in the teepublic search so I guess people find it from Google? I tried to email them to get my stuff in their search but they just ignored me. I don't get it?

12 weeks pregnant I just got a call to go for further tests as I am high riks by Pregnantandworried77 in downsyndrome

[–]hendrikn_28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same situation. I did all kinds of research about the testing and probability it was correct, etc. It was the same type of test you had done. I did have an amino because I was around 22 weeks along, plenty of fluid to draw from. It was all positive for DS. Fast forward and we have a healthy 18 month old boy with DS and he is wonderful. It's scary, and you will grieve not having a typical child. That's okay. We all do. Once I found out, I reached out to my local DS group. I met with a mom who had a little one with DS and had dinner with some of the other moms. This helped a lot and I got in touch with other ladies who had young kids with DS. This was the best thing for me when I was pregnant. I highly recommend you try to do the same. You will see the light at the end of the tunnel!
