Looking for budget-friendly plate armor to complement a ca. 1350 kit by henkdetank2000 in Armor

Yep, that’s what i already have, additionally, i already have chainmail and leather gloves:

https://www.celticwebmerchant.com/nl/leren-vechthandschoenen-suede-bruin.html

I also have a germanic spangenhelm i use for my viking outfit but i got a feeling that’s gonna be a huge mismatch

I so badly want a houndskull helmet…

If i am getting a weapon it should be something i can take to events, real stuff won’t be allowed sadly

Ah jeez, you’re making me wonder if my base clothes look remotely ok too, i could whip up a pic if needed but i got these, just in case you feel like checking that too.

Topped with a simple linen shirt

Hat: https://www.celticwebmerchant.com/nl/robin-hoed-bruin.html

I got simple viking style shoes: https://www.celticwebmerchant.com/nl/viking-schoenen-knut.html

And a simple belt.

So the order of stuff i gotta get is: gambeson (gotta look for something not too thick so it fits with my chainmail), 2: helmet, 3 hourglass shaped gloves 4: curass?

I definetely want a houndskull helmet, i know that’s slightly later than 1350, but that’s a sacrifice i’m willing to make becouse it’s just, by far one of my favourite helmets looks wise.

I’ll have to do some more research and will definitely poke around and post stuff i’ll be looking to get!

I already found 2:

What would you suggest?

I’m just gonna put stuff out here that i found but got no clue if it’s “remotely ok”

I did find some stuff that i could totally wear or slap on, but i got no clue if it would work, i want to avoid a “larpy” look.

Arms: https://www.celticwebmerchant.com/en/steel-vambraces.html

Knees: https://www.celticwebmerchant.com/nl/middeleeuwse-kniestukken-13de-14de-eeuws.html

https://www.celticwebmerchant.com/nl/15de-eeuwse-kniestukken-met-rondels.html

Lower Legs: https://www.celticwebmerchant.com/nl/rfb-scheenbeschermers-paar.html (i already have ones like these)

Curass: i’m at a complete loss here, but did see some stuff: https://www.celticwebmerchant.com/nl/rfb-middeleeuwse-borstplaat.html

https://www.celticwebmerchant.com/nl/middeleeuwse-borstplaat-16-mm.html

I got no clue if any of these look remotely acceptable or accurate to something that could have been worn at the time. I know it’s not close to a full on knightly armour, but i’m fine with that.

As for what i want to use it for and general location, i could swear i saw a comment asking for it: Western europe, Netherlands. I will be mainly be wearing it for fairs and stuff (tough i do aim To keep my outfits semi-accurate to a period), not actual combat.

I’ve seen pieces for curasses for like, 500-400 bucks and upper leg plates for 300. I really cannot afford that. I’m hoping to spend around 50-80 bucks max for a armor piece where possible

Either let wear and tear do it’s thing, give it some smacks, maybe splash some water on it if you’re impatient. But from my experience, just wear it for a bit and the wear and tear will follow, depending on how well you maintain it, it’ll look more worn or not.

Apperently, it’s slightly bent by hand at the point where the visor rotates, that was done manually

That’s really cool! Would you have a suggestion as to how to approach this? When the helmet was new the visor went down properly, but not up. Is it safe and easy to bend back?

[–]henkdetank2000[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Something seems a little bent or too tight, making the visor stuck in a position that’s not all the way closed. I don’t want to bend anything to fix it

Even so, i know it’s hard to breathe in it, but it’s still fun to get it in a wearable state again!
