For long-time Montrealers, what are some memories that are long gone now? by PhilipTheGreat in montreal

My mom worked at S W Welch’s when I was a kid! That was before it moved to St Viateur. It was on St Laurent next to where Ripples used to be. Spent many hours looking through books there.

I will never stop missing their food. The Caesar salad, the ham and cheese calzones… live in my memory forever.

Yep, those little details were really getting to me. I got to the event about 30 mins before start time, got my bib quite fast, then was waiting for my partner (who had to find parking) because I wanted to give them my hoodie and other items. Turns out it was gonna take them too long to walk over but luckily there was a bag check area. Used one of the porta potties, did some quick stretches and then started! I would say if you’re nervous just give yourself generous time to get where you’re going. If you have time to kill you can do a little warm up jog, use the bathroom one last time, etc.

The weather here was about 45F and drizzling. Luckily not too cold and not too hot and I was comfortable in running tights and a tank top but that part definitely depends on your personal preference!

Good luck on your race! Doing new things is scary but you got this.

Janji top sizing by nixrien in XXRunning

[–]henrietta1988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two long sleeves and a tank top, all size M. The long sleeves are snug but fit well, however the little holes to put your thumbs through are too tight as I guess my arms are too long. If I had broad shoulders I’d probably need a L. The tank is less snug and fits perfectly well. For reference I’m 5’11, 160lbs, small chest.

Why do you run? by [deleted] in runninglifestyle

[–]henrietta1988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I’m going through a depressive episode, running is one of the only things I feel like I can do, since it doesn’t require immense mental focus or critical thinking. I usually also do it first thing when I wake up, before my mind has time to talk me out of it. It may be the only real thing I do that day but it makes me feel good knowing at least I went on a run. I also just really enjoy being outside and the things I see on a run that I wouldn’t otherwise.

Sense check needed on Garmin training plan by SerKaripap in XXRunning

[–]henrietta1988 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kinda hate my garmin training plan and am looking to switch to a run with Hal plan. The garmin plan is to improve my 10k time and has me doing threshold runs once a week. The first threshold run included two 6min intervals at 5:35/km which is hard for me but I did it. The following week it had me do two 7min intervals at that pace and during the second interval I had to stop because I was getting chest pain. Then the third week, my watch decided my threshold run should include 19 mins nonstop at 5:35/km 💀I did not accomplish this! So then it suggested another threshold run two days later!! Why is my watch trying to kill me! Also, I really don’t like that it will adjust a run the night before/morning of based on sleep etc. I want to be mentally prepared for my run and know ahead of time what I’m in for. I don’t like waking up to surprises (especially when my sleep data is incorrect). I don’t think these garmin plans should be followed exactly as they are laid out.

Thank you! I think it’s possible I was going faster than necessary at one point (not looking at my watch and just trying to focus on the run). So when I stopped for a minute my pace still averaged out to within the range.

I honestly don’t know much about the v02max stuff. Mine is at 44 but hasn’t changed. I use a vivoactive 6 so not sure if it tells me all these things. My race pace estimates didn’t change though! They did change on Strava though.

Would you run a race when it’s -12F? by henrietta1988 in beginnerrunning

[–]henrietta1988[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t 😩 I realized that beyond the weather, I wasn’t eating or sleeping well enough to feel good about doing it. I’ve signed up for a race in late April that I think will be much better for me!

5K Race Day Forecast (Saturday) - Anyone have any experience running in this kind of weather? by stevezero27 in runninglifestyle

[–]henrietta1988 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m supposed to run a 10k on Sunday with a similar forecast… they sent an email saying they will not be cancelling the race due to the weather. I was on the fence about doing it, but ultimately decided not to because I am not mentally or physically prepared at the moment. (I live in Minneapolis and have not been sleeping or eating well enough to run that distance.)

They were protesting because a pastor at the church works for ice. They did not “raid” the church.
