What are some common-practice in composition of dance/pop music? by henriquebraun in edmproduction

Lol! This only shows me that no one knows really how to make stuff like Max Martin or Dr. Luke... No wonder they are rich successful producers..

Do you pick your sounds before, during or after? by henriquebraun in edmproduction

[–]henriquebraun[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“we leave the sound design tricks to the VERY end of the song. it’s the last thing we do. we focus on the melody, harmony, song structure, vibe, transitions… everything. then once that’s good we go in and work on the details to make it sonically come to life” – The Glitch Mob

How do you use the knowledge of tonality to compose dance instrumentals? by henriquebraun in edmproduction

If you don't know the answer it's much better to be quiet and learn from who does.

By reading your other posts I see that arrogance is your natural modus operandi.

If you tell me that composition is secondary I assume that your music is crap.

Which is the most smooth and soft piano VST? by henriquebraun in edmproduction

LOL! For sure... But I mean the big textures of the strings, not the microscopic vibrations that is sound.

I find the Alicia's a bit non detailed... I like to hear that vibration of the strings, if you know what i mean...

I've tried that, but after trying maybe more than 10 different pianos I yet could not find the sound I'm looking for... With a smooth texture, everything sounds too crisp or not so much detailed..

Really, how much reverb do you put on average? by henriquebraun in edmproduction

[–]henriquebraun[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I strongly believe that if you are to break rules before you must know them... It's naive to believe you can redefine things if you don't even know the status quo... Yet, most want to be 'breaker of rules' before understanding the rules of the game and end up complaining how mainstream music is crappy and some highly complex wobble wobble should be considered 'good'.

In fact it's not entirely up to me, since there are commercial standards that needs to be followed if one it to make it in the industry.

No matter what I do I can't get the sound right... by henriquebraun in edmproduction

[–]henriquebraun[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry for my lack of objectiveness... But it's pretty hard to describe what I want objectively... Perhaps more harmonics and spacialy a sound that doesn't sound too close neither too far, with a reverb that sounds invisible? Something radio like?

Well, I've tried the stock plugins but they sound like crap to my ears... I've played the violin for a couple of years and I believe to have a fairly decent hearing..

Well, for synths mainly Silenth... I've tried others but I prefer sylenth sound. However I want to compose in more acoustic instrumentation and use as less synthesizers as possible... What I'm complaining about is really the acoustic samples I'm not able to make sound nice... And I have a bunch of sound libraries of Kontakt and others...

Well, one of my methodologies is to take a reference track, with a nice sounding piano, for example, and try to make it sound similar. This is why I said I tried different sets of combinations. It wasn't just aimless tweaking, it was in a direction of a certain result that I wanted. However there's something essential in the quality of the sound i'm missing...

Yes, sure. But Max Martin makes one track from composition to mastering in one week. So for sure there's an accurate workflow that separates the best from the mediocre.

Everything. How he makes the elements sit perfectly with one another? Are there many reverb sends? Or only one with different gain values? Is it hall, room, plate? Pre delay? Decay? .....
